(More customer reviews)After receiving mt THOMPSON Elite seatpost I must say I'm a little disappointed with a few details. Whilst certain of it's structural integrity, I find the finish on the clamping end of the device sorely lacking compared to other high end seatposts. Yea, yea, I know "best post in the world", "a gorilla couldn't bend it", "I'm afraid someone's going to steal it" 5 Stars, 5 Stars, 5 Stars, Blah, Blah, Blah. All of the aforementioned is, I'm sure true, but one thing really bothers me, the clamp head LOOKS CHEAP. I know it is fabricated from drop forged pieces, but nothing is finished and polished before painting and it LOOKS like cheap, WAL-MART grade bike, stamped steel. I know it isn't but it LOOKS that way. The actual seat tube is obviously machined from a single piece of aluminum and is beautifully made, but the lack of edge sanding on the clamping pieces is unforgivable on a component of this price range. Add to this the bolts, I'm sure they are high grade, high stress rated bolts and all that, but the plating on them (cadmium or something?) again, makes them LOOK like junk. I'm using the post to mount a SELLE ITALIA Flite saddle and because of it's slender profile and hole in the top, it doesn't hide much of the post. YUCK, very un-elegant to say the least. Look, I'm not a "Bling Junkie" or anything, but for almost $100, I don't think having it pretty and strong is asking too much. I wonder if I sprung for another $50 and bought the "MASTERPIECE" edition if this issue would be better addressed? I know it's made in the good 'ole USA, but I also wonder if a $100 post made in China or Japan would have the same issues?
I'll keep this one, but next time I'll try something different...
5 STARS for reputation and strength
2 STARS for finish and appearance
3 STARS overall

Thomson machined the Elite Seatpost tube and head out of a single piece of 7000 series aluminum. It's not bonded, pressed, or welded. This gives it maximum strength and minimum weight because there are no joints. The natural ellipse bored inside of the tube provides added thickness where strength is needed and removes material where you don't need it.Product Features
