What does international Skateboard superstar Tony Hawk know about building bicycles??? NOTHING!!!!!! This is crap worthy of a shelf in Wal Mart.
I've been riding BMX in all it's forms and inclinations (dirt, street, mx, vert) for over 14 years and there is one thing I can say with 100% certainty, and that is when you cheap out you spend more. Even as a beginner bike this thing is not going to last a season, meaning you will be paying to repair the sub standard spokes, rims, brakes, gyro, bars, etc. etc. If your kid is just learning BMX that means a lot of hard, flat bottomed landings, homemade ramps, and accidental frame slides from missed grinds. That all means a whole lot of beatings this bike will not stand up to. With average bicycle repairs costing 50 bucks at a shop, you add at least two trips a month with every day intended use by the end of the summer this $400 bike costs you what you would have spent on a better bike.
Experience is everything. For comparable prices you can get yourself a complete Sunday! bike. Rider owned companies are the way to go. That's why brands like Mongoose, who used to be the kings of BMX, are now found in department stores, and companies owned by pro's, like Jim Cielencki's Sunday! are ruling the sport. Sunday Bikes are the front of the line. The most technologically advanced bikes available in BMX. And there are some models, (Sunday Funday Am, Ex, and Pro, [...]) are all available for around the same price as this wheeled paperweight. They will last longer, with less need for trips to the bike shop which means less cheddar out of your pocket. Trust me, I blew through two bikes a year for my first five years involved in the sport until I stopped looking at name brands and started riding rider built bikes.
It's your dime.
