Every endurance athlete knows about gels and you either hate them or love them. For the haters, insert GU Chomps into the mix and you may just find a happy middle ground. Personally, I don't like the syrupy consistency of gels but I absolutely LOVE gummy fruit snacks. SCORE!
I used these during marathon training. They're easy to carry - you can pin them to your shorts & tuck them in. You don't have to eat them all at once like a gel. I recommend having a sip of water or a sports drink to wash it down but it's not a necessity.
Keep an eye out for caffeinated Chomps (and gels). This is caffeinated but there are other flavors that aren't. ;)
