I've pondered between Full Carbon Fiber, Carbon-Matrix, and the flexibility of the Adjustable stem. I was looking for an Absolute Light set-up of my bike for a racing style for my TT bike but opted for this adjustable stem with the use of a "Two Bike or more Set Up", however I wanted to make sure that the Best Adjustable stem was bought. The Eleven81 and this by far is the best choice I could've picked. My main priority was the durability of the Pivot Point of the stem and it is solidly built with a Multi-Multi teeth ingenious "probably patented" pivot gear that locks the pivot completely. I caught it squeeking after riding it for a week.
The main reason I was looking to avoid ALL Adujustable Stems was due to "squeeking pivot bolts" and durability, never knowing when it might break one day or something. The only reason it squeeked, I can clearly see now at least on this stem, is because of the bolt holding it together and NOT the Internal Mechanical Pivot Gear! Whew! I thought I had to go back to buying my full carbon stem and return a JUNK stem. I'm assuming it needs an additional washer within the big Stainless Steel-face Washer which I will do.
Having said that, this allows me to have a racing bike and a commuter bike in one!! To offset my need to absorb vibrations, I've opted to have the TT bars and Clip bars as full carbon fiber rather than everything carbon fiber and it's working out pretty good with a stiffer aluminum stem, balanced with absorption of handlebars. On my days I don't want to race, I obviously have the option to Convert it to a more comfortable comfort bike with a simple one minute adjustment when I just want to relax on an alternating basis. Rather than buying another bike, I can concentrate on buying a MTB bike. If you thoroughly look at this stem, I have a feeling this is the same manufacturer as the more expensive counterpart, Opal! Goes without saying that I made a good choice on this one. My upgrade on this stem is to upgrade with Titanium Bolts to save an additional 20 to 30 grams on this thing. Hey it doesn't hurt to shave grams here and there.
