SKS Raceblade Bicycle Fender Set Review

These aren't full length fenders but road bikes have a difficult time accepting mounted full length fenders without extensive modification. Unless it rains a hundred inches per year in your area, you probably don't need to go through that pain/expense. That's where these SKS fenders come into play. They simply mount on with the oversized rubber bands. It's not pretty, but having dirt stripes up your back is even uglier when not using a fender at all.
I was a little disappointed with the construction of these units. For a universal fit system it should've had more adjustments available. On my bike the rear wasn't too hard to find the right spot, but the front was a pain. The problem was exacerbated by how the U-shape clip isn't exactly a low profile and will hit the downtube wires if it's up just a little too high. These are the XL versions but even with my 25mm GP4000 tires it seemed barely wide enough without potential rubbing. If you have 28mm tires I'd say forget it, these aren't going to work. The composite fender jiggles and bounces so it could use better internal reinforcement. This of course forces you to ensure there is lots of clearance to prevent rubbing.
In performance, I rode through heavy ponded areas and they worked brilliantly. My shoes were no longer soaked right off the bat as they would've been without fenders. No dirt stripes either. So, they do work after all. Some potholes did manage to mess up the alignment of the fender but it's no big deal.
Overall, these could be better made for adjustment as I mentioned. The price is high but well worth it the first time you use them in the rain... I can honestly say I fear those road puddles much less now.
Edit: Been using them more and found that if you use zip ties they become more solidly "mounted" than just the rubber bands which have a tendency to drift downwards. Even the meanest potholes and bumping my leg into the fenders doesn't budge them anymore. You can get a whole bag of zipties at a hardware store for just a few bucks so even cutting them off pretty often isn't costly.
