(More customer reviews)I have to agree that the mirror 'arm' is too short.
However, my helmet is one of the larger made.
(Bell Faction Dave Mirra Multi-Sport)
I also think I should have purchased a mirror with a larger diameter.
Since the mirror arm and mount adjustment socket-balls have such
a limited range of movement, I had a very limited choice in where
the mirror base (double-sided-sticky) could be installed.
I have to look way up and left to see the mirror, and
that might take a lot of getting used to.
Had I been able to mount it lower, it would be easier
to use (without rolling my eyes so far over).While out riding today, I found that the mirror can be removed
from it's base. Built into the flat mounting section, there
are two little 'snaps' that hold two segments together.
While I was reaching up trying to adjust my view,
the whole thing popped off in my hand.
I snapped it back on later when we stopped for ice cream. :)
There is much more vibration ( = fuzzy vision) than
is seen in my handlebar mounted (Blackburn) mirror.
If you ride on bumpy roads a lot, forget this mirror!
If I get another one, It will be bigger and have a longer arm.

(More customer reviews)This mirror, although the position is good when riding, is not practical. I was constantly trying to avoid hitting the mirror against anything such as a wall, pole or anything else. This is because it sticks out so much from the handlebars. You cannot flip your bike upside down to work on it with this mirror attached.
There is road vibration also. It takes a long time to figure out what is going on in the mirror. For example, at night there may be three cars behind you. But because of the vibration, it looks like 6 cars because what you see is 12 bouncing lights but it is really 6 bouncing lights from three cars with two headlights each.
Because of the optical curve, objects also appear different than in real life. So it is also hard to perceive depth. I returned mine and have a glasses mirror that works much better.
The reason I give it two stars is if you cannot wear a helmet or glasses mirror, then this mirror is better than riding unsafely with no mirror at all.

Mirrycle Road STI Bicycle Mirror Review

(More customer reviews)When you go searching for a mirror for your road bike, you will probably find, as I did, that your choice is mostly of which bar-end mirror to get. I find those mirrors to be too low to see easily and my arm blocks their view as well.
Long ago (though I still have it) Mirrycle made a mirror that mounted onto where the cable comes out of the brake hand grip. So, it was above your hands and not down so low that you had take your eyes off the road and look down to see it. But, brake levers changed and so that product had no market. Following that, I had found a model that clamped with velcro strap around the brake handle. That was in the right place, but made the grip large and feel different and awkward.
So, I was excited to discover online that Mirrycle was making a mirror specifically designed for the Shimano STI brake levers/shifters. I bugged my local shop to get them, but they never did. FInally in January, I gave up on the local shop and decided to go online to buy, only to discover that they had been pulled from the market. Seems the original design was failing (breaking) sometimes. I kept watching and finally found one shop get them in back stock and bought it - presumably a modified design (hasn't broken).
Installation of the mirror is pretty straight forward. It is well designed to attach to the STI handle using the features that are molded in place to hold the rubber grip in place. I have to say that Mirrycle could do their less mechanically inclined folks a favor by assembling the mirror a bit more in advance. You basically get a bag of parts. 3 screws, 6 washers, 3 plastic tubes, mirror, and a crumpled up instruction sheet. I didn't have any trouble putting it all together in about 5 minutes with the included allen hex wrenches, but I am an engineer and enjoy such things. I am sure others might be frustrated by it.
In use, I am again very pleased to have a mirror that is easy to find in my field of view, so I can actually see cars while my eyes are on the road. You do have to play with the screw tightness a bit to get where the mirror stays in place without it being so tight that it will break when pushed hard rather than turning. I have started erring on the loose side.
I do notice that road vibration can be a bit annoying as compared to the more rigidly mounted bar-end mirrors leading to a fuzzier view - this is what prevents me giving it a full 5 star rating. Personally, I think this is a worthwhile tradeoff for being able to see it well. I know of no better mirror on the market.

Blackburn Mountain Bike Mirror Review

(More customer reviews)Bought one of these locally to try it out and paid full price, after my kids complained their handlebar mount mirrors on their new bikes were obscured by their body and did not give a clear view.
After trying out the Blackburn on several bike rides to see how it performed, I ordered 4 more for my kids and spouse to use on their bikes. Everyone actually tried out the first one and liked it. Depending on your grip, our bikes have ergo type, it should be secure.
I tried it on a pavement ride and a bumpy off road trail and the mirror stayed in position for the most part. Instead of putting a hole in my grip this strap on with velcro worked out fine. I remove it when off the bike. It is also useful to take on a trip if you rent bikes.
I had a handle bar mount Mirrycle on the grip end on my former bike and it broke when the bike got knocked over while unattended. It was too costly to continually replace the parts as the Mirrycle is glass.
Also the view is wide like a US auto's righthand side mirror and you can watch you kids behind you as well as the approaching traffic.
Don't waste your money on standard bike mirrors as they are really useless and don't give a good view. A wide view mirror works best mounted on your grip end, whether permanent or removable as is this Blackburn.

I like bar end mirrors best on my drop bars and while many appear beefier, this one has been much more durable. Third Eye Bar End Bicycle Mirror Review

(More customer reviews)I would have given this 5 stars if it were not for the lack of instructions. I contacted customer service at Third Eye (only option is email) but I did receive a reply w/in the hour...from a real person who's customer service skills were so good that I decided to give it the 4 stars instead of the 3 I was going to rate it. By the time I got the reply I had figured the thing out from a picture on a competitor's website. The mirror is pre-assembled when packaged but often comes apart during shipping. The 2 large rubber pieces are supposed to slide over the screw. You then secure the whole thing w/the enclosed nut (be careful when opening package..the nut came flying out that I didn't know was there because of lack of instructions or list of what's included..i saw the nut on the competitor's site..it was a miracle I found it). Then screw clockwise into handlebar end. I was told by Shela at customer service not to screw it in too tight (needed info that should be included w/absent instructions) or the mirror could crack (I torqued mine so much that I bent the screw but was able to straighten it out). Shela also recommended locktite so it doesn't come apart. My mirror fell out of the handlebar end once but I had trouble getting it in all the way when I assembled it. When I put it in again I sprayed the inside of the handlebar w/cooking spray (don't use too much) & the mirror went all the way in w/ease. Make sure the head of the screw is seated when you start to turn.
Now for how it works. It's great! No vibration, real glass, and the convex shape gives a wide field of view. At one point I was so desperate for good mirrors that I even had bulky motorcycle mirrors mounted. Third Eye is smaller & works way better w/a larger field of view than those motorcycle mirrors ever did (& I had motorcycle mirrors mounted on both sides & Third Eye still gives me a larger field of view only mounted on 1 side). Overall I'm very happy with the product!

I'm an avid cyclist, 3 times a week, over 3,000 miles a year (OK, I'm retired) During the summer most of my cycling is on country roads so it's imperative that I see what's coming before I hear it. It works well once you get used to it. First you must set it up on your helmet. With some of today's designs this takes some thought, but stick with it (no pun intended). Then you must position it so it doesn't block your forward vision. Practice around the house or walking outdoors until you feel comfortable. The mirror arm is quite flexible & strong so it's easy to move. The oval shape gives a large view & the mirror design increases the depth of field to make it easy to see the approaching objects.As well the mirror itself swivels making it adjustable for anyone. If you have to move it to another helmet I found that several layers of 2 sided thick carpet tape worked just fine to secure the base. The mirror which snaps on a little ball joint at the end of the arm became sloppy so I wrapped a small piece of painter's tape around it. It's quite strong though as I found out when I took a tumble off my mountain bike. I cracked my helmet & ribs but the mirror stayed on in one piece. Would highly recommend this safety device to any cyclist whether you bike on roads or just a neighborhood trail. I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars as I feel you should be able to order additional arms and or mirrors as needed.

Blackburn Multi Mirror Bike Mirror Review

(More customer reviews)I'm buying my second one - the first one has worn out after six years of use. I like this one better than others because it sticks out farther so you can see behind you better. It also has a hinge so that when it knocks into something, it doesn't break or fall off... also good for easily moving it to make the bike fit in the trunk better.
It's fallen off a lot recently, but I think in the first five years, it fell of once before I really tightened it down (it has a knob that makes it removable by hand, but the knob lines up flush with the arm so when the mirror is extended, it's not noticeable).

readily available on the road, protected when not in use. Unfortunately,
the reality is a hard to use product that does little to improve road safety.
Because of the narrowness of the mirror, it's very difficult to focus on what
is actually behind you with a quick glance. Sure, if you sit there for 10
seconds you can figure it out, but I don't have that sort of time when I'm
dodging through Chicago traffic!
Save your money and buy the excellent Mirrcycle instead.

(More customer reviews)This mirror is fantastic. I bought it to replace a helmet mounted mirror when the stem broke on the helmet mount. I can't tell you how much better I like this bar-end mirror. It's much easier to find this mirror out of the corner of my eye, and it provides a very good view of what's behind me, both in the traffic lanes and directly behind me in the bike lane.
I did have to mutilate the grip on my handlebar to remove the plug and cut out and opening for the mirror, so just trying it out requires some commitment, but once it is mounted the installation looks clean.
I didn't have any significant trouble with the installation. The directions are a little bit unclear about what to do with piece that goes inside the bar (the directions say to "secure" it, but you need to leave it loose, securing only the nut, until it is inside the bar). If you look at the piece and think about how it's going to hold the mirror in place, it's pretty obvious what to do with it.
The mirror itself stays put very well on rides. It shakes a very little bit, but really only little. The stability is surprisingly good for a piece for which it is so easy to adjust the angles.
All the parts can be replaced individually if broken for about $4 each plus shipping.
