(More customer reviews)This bell is great. If you're looking for a bell that gives a ice clear crisp DING!, then this is it. It's saved me from a few mishaps while out on my daily ride. One guy heard me through his rolled up window while on his cell.
The only problem is if you ride in the rain, the bell's plastic base will hold enough water to muffle the ding, but I fixed this by drilling a small drainage hole through the bottom plastic base.

Schwinn Thrasher Adult Micro Bicycle Helmet (Adult) Review

(More customer reviews)I am writing this review based up on my real life experience on 3/14/10. My husband is a lifelong cyclist. Together we have worn bike helmets our entire adult lives. Friends joked about how we looked wearing our helmets in the past. They don't joke anymore. My husband was riding solo at about 18-20 MPH and became startled by an unleashed dog that appeared out of nowhere. Expecting to be nipped at the heel, the dog instead crashed into the front bicycle wheel, sending him over the handlebars onto a paved street. His 1 year old Schwinn Thrasher helmet took the fist impact, destroying itself in order to save his skull and brain. Reconstructive orthopedic surgery was required for his shattered left collarbone. He is still healing - but he is able share his experience with others today. I spent a mere $20 bucks at a discount store. The Schwinn Thrasher helmet saved my husband's life. Thank you Schwinn.

Nathan Reflex Reflective Snap Bands Review

(More customer reviews)...the stiff metal band in the middle, coupled with the hard plastic edge of the covering and the inability to set a fixed tension point (the design ends up tightening the fit more and more as you run), render these bands extremely uncomfortable if worn around the ankles on bare skin, and not much better around the upper arm or (least uncomfortable) the wrist. I guess if you were wearing it over pants or a long-sleeved jacket it would be less of a problem.
I bought this product hoping to use it with my Garmin footpod, but alas the band is actually too wide to fit the footpod's slide-through belt loop casing, so I had to take a pair of utility scissors and trim a part of the band.
Now I will have to try and find an ankle band made of neoprene or some other softer material with a velcro closure or some other means of adjusting the tightness of the fit. Oh well, the pitfalls of internet shopping---not being able to try something on first before ordering.

Serfas Handle Bar Light Plugs Review

(More customer reviews)The Serfas Tracer takes a total of 4 watch batteries, which is a nuisance because you're unlikely to have replacements handy when they go dead. There are slots in the plastic casing for the batteries go in, but this means that the batteries and the internal circuit board are exposed. Even though they were stuck in the ends of your handlebars, it seems they had some exposure to the elements. I ride this bike in the rain a lot and when I took the Serfas out to replace the batteries, there was some corrosion around the batteries and a little bit on the circuit board.
I thought I would like the switch mechanism, which is that you push the light bulb itself to toggle it. It's actually remarkably hard to push when you're on the bike though.
The light itself is OK but does not seem particularly bright to me.
I think a better option is Soma Road Flares. I have Soma Road Flares on another bike. They take standard AAA batteries which is great. The unit has a totally sealed plastic casing, with even the battery going into an enclosed housing with a screw-on cap. There is also a rubber grommet around the plastic case to make it fit better in the bar ends, which the Serfas doesn't have. The toggle switch is a little rubber button, which is pretty easy to push on the bike, a little hard if you're wearing full finger gloves. The Somas seem a little brighter than the Serfas to me, although it's probably about the same. The Soma has a plastic "lens" over the LED which makes it look a bit brighter. The Soma Road Flares are a little hard to track down but they're typically $15 which is half the price of the Serfas Tracers. Rivendell has 'em.

Giro Section Bike/Multi-Sport Helmet Review

(More customer reviews)I'm not a fan of the aerodynamic day-glo style of most bike helmets, so I was pleased to see this offering by Giro. (I also own their Giro E2 Bike Helmet.) I opted for the large size because, like another reviewer, my head is pretty big. I was pleased with the Section in this regard: The large size is roomy and comes with three sets (thin, medium, thick) of internal padding that attach via Velcro. Using combinations of these pads, the helmet can be customized for most head shapes. As the other reviewer notes, those with truly huge noggins may find that the thinnest pads provide limited cushioning in a fall. Removing the pads and substituting a thin wool cap is also an option for cool spring/fall riding.
Compared to other pot style multi-sport helmets, this one is pretty light. Giro claims it's 296g, but that must be without any internal pads attached. With the thinnest pads inserted, it weighed in at 314g on my balance. That's still not bad. It doesn't feel very massive when it's strapped on.
My one complaint is cooling. The helmet sits almost flush against scalp and leaves little space for flow-through ventilation. There are a few vents, but they don't do much. As a result, I suspect I'll be wearing my well-ventilated E2 when the summer months start to really heat up.
If and when this thing does its job and stops my skull from cracking on the pavement, I'll report back on its performance.

I'm an avid cyclist, 3 times a week, over 3,000 miles a year (OK, I'm retired) During the summer most of my cycling is on country roads so it's imperative that I see what's coming before I hear it. It works well once you get used to it. First you must set it up on your helmet. With some of today's designs this takes some thought, but stick with it (no pun intended). Then you must position it so it doesn't block your forward vision. Practice around the house or walking outdoors until you feel comfortable. The mirror arm is quite flexible & strong so it's easy to move. The oval shape gives a large view & the mirror design increases the depth of field to make it easy to see the approaching objects.As well the mirror itself swivels making it adjustable for anyone. If you have to move it to another helmet I found that several layers of 2 sided thick carpet tape worked just fine to secure the base. The mirror which snaps on a little ball joint at the end of the arm became sloppy so I wrapped a small piece of painter's tape around it. It's quite strong though as I found out when I took a tumble off my mountain bike. I cracked my helmet & ribs but the mirror stayed on in one piece. Would highly recommend this safety device to any cyclist whether you bike on roads or just a neighborhood trail. I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars as I feel you should be able to order additional arms and or mirrors as needed.

It has a little hidden tray for a wallet or something, comes with reflector and you can remove it and it's ready to recieve blinking lights,clip ons. Perfect for running to the store, comes with two adjustable rubber straps. Had it on in minutes, comes with different size rubber shims to fit seat post size if you need them and best of all it doubles as a fender and keeps the water from shooting on me. I have 26 inch wheels and I finished it off by getting the little extended fender that Topeak makes for it. (MTX DeFender Bicycle Fender-$5.00) The threaded holes are already in the rack and with the 2 screws that came with the fender, had it on. It sticks out past the rack another 5 inches and total length, Rack and fender from the center of the seat post is 23 1/4 inches. I am very happy with it and it really looks good.

One small piece of advice: It has a more rounded appearance from the front than most bike helmets do. So if you don't like the thought of a "round" look when someone's looking at you straight on, this might not be the helmet for you.

Monkey Light Bike Light Review

(More customer reviews)I got one for my front wheel and one for the back. The devices themselves are light as a feather; it's the batteries that add the weight. Hold three double-A batteries in your hand and you will get a feel for the weight you'll have on each wheel. You may feel the unbalance at times. It seems to cause a slight forward-backward shimmy when coasting at high speeds, but then it's probably only when the two sets of lights are lined up with each other. It is not enough of a shimmy to make me feel out of control of the bike, and I like the lights enough that I do not mind the shimmy. I am sure that the issue of balance will vary with each bike and rider.
One set of lights per wheel does not create the complete disk of light effect I had expected after looking at pictures on the website. At the speed I usually go in the city, I get a sweeping pattern that fills about only about one quarter of the wheel. The eye easily follows the lights as they rotate around & around.
The device has several buttons which allow you to customize the display - color, speed and pattern. However, it's impossible to see the effects when you are riding the bike yourself. If you can rig up a bike stand, or put the bike on the ground upside-down in the dark, that might work if you really want to test and see the different pattern choices. I only use my spoke lights when it's dark, of course, and when one is at the bike rack all bundled up in winter gear, it's hard to get down on the ground and see all those tiny buttons. So, I usually just push the "ON" button and let it go with the default.
I recommend installing the spoke lights so that the control buttons face the side of the bike you normally use to mount and dismount.

This LED is very bright, lightweight (under 1-oz) and easy to use as a clip-on light (attach to waistband, shirt collar, etc). This can be worn in a heavy downpour, or even swimming (unit is O-ring sealed and waterproof-rated to 300 feet).

When angled precisely with the light aimed at a car-driver in a distance, LED flashers should be visible for at least 1,200 feet (many LED flashers's visibility are rated for 2,500-feet (1/2 mile) in perfect conditions; this one, extra-bright, rated for 1 mile). I tested how this flasher (and a competitor product) would perform when the flasher is angled poorly. I laid the two LED flashers flat on the trunk of my car, flasher pointed upwards so the light I'd see will be what the LED-flasher sends sideways. I then walked to about 320 feet/20 car-lengths away. From the distance even sloppily aimed, this LED flashing light remains very visible. [From 50 car lengths distance, the flashing light would still be visible though fainter.]

Supernova LED safety flasher is fit-for-purpose and outperformed the competitor-product. [I bought the competitor-product at Sports Authority --has 5 LED's; uses 2 AAA-batteries in a non-weather-proof rectangular housing. The Sports Authority unit, lying on it side/poorly aimed, was also visible from 20-carlengths away. SuperNova about 35% or 50% brighter.

Mirrycle MTB Bar End Mountain Bicycle Mirror Review

(More customer reviews)This mirror is fantastic. I bought it to replace a helmet mounted mirror when the stem broke on the helmet mount. I can't tell you how much better I like this bar-end mirror. It's much easier to find this mirror out of the corner of my eye, and it provides a very good view of what's behind me, both in the traffic lanes and directly behind me in the bike lane.
I did have to mutilate the grip on my handlebar to remove the plug and cut out and opening for the mirror, so just trying it out requires some commitment, but once it is mounted the installation looks clean.
I didn't have any significant trouble with the installation. The directions are a little bit unclear about what to do with piece that goes inside the bar (the directions say to "secure" it, but you need to leave it loose, securing only the nut, until it is inside the bar). If you look at the piece and think about how it's going to hold the mirror in place, it's pretty obvious what to do with it.
The mirror itself stays put very well on rides. It shakes a very little bit, but really only little. The stability is surprisingly good for a piece for which it is so easy to adjust the angles.
All the parts can be replaced individually if broken for about $4 each plus shipping.
