It cannot even hold the weight of my bike and bends out to side and eventually my bike falls.
I tried to adjust the distance between the two archs to fit the tire width to see if I get better result but no luck.

(More customer reviews)I got 3 of these to carry our bikes on a 600 mile trip. They are very stable and the bikes did not sway at all (even my big trail bike). It does take some time to get the two bolts clamped down but the racks with the quick clamps are $150+. So for the price and occational use this carrier works great. I would give it a 5 but the clamp that hods the bike on needs better padding as to not scatch the bike (I fixed with some xtream tape).

Thule 912XT Roadway 2 Bike Hitch Carrier Review

I'm sure there are cheaper solutions but I didn't want to fool around with other products and then end up having to buy this anyway a year from now.
I've heard good things about this Thule rack from friends for years and now I'm in a position to attest to the quality - worth every penny.
Pros:
- Easy to put on and take off.
- Bends out of the way so you can get in and out of the hatch back (4-Runner)
- Rock solid engineering and quality materials are obvious - I'll have this for life - I have no doubts.
- SL2 lock for securing this to your hitch and making "thief-proof" is a must and I'm very impressed with how they pulled that off as well. Buy the lock right away - you're going to want it.
Cons - none yet to speak of - I'll update this if something comes up.
Comment: I have my doubts about the lock that secures the bikes to the rack - the cable lock - I don't question Thule's product - I think it's as good as anything out there but I don't have any confidence in cable locks in general securing my bikes.
I haven't bought a solution yet because I need to figure out the measurements. But, I'll likely buy 2-4 Kryptonite locks to secure the bikes to the rack. I wouldn't feel comfortable with anything less. Cable locks are just too easy for thiefs to cut. Ideally, I'd like 2-3 Kryptonite locks with the same key.

(More customer reviews)I use this rack in my apartment to keep my bikes away from rain and thieves. I like that this rack requires no wall-drilling and keeps bikes flat against the wall (rather than sticking out like those racks that hang bikes by their front wheels.) I'm very impressed with its stability, considering the rack itself is pretty light. There's only one contact point with the wall, which has a big, rubber end (like the two feet) so it won't scratch or mark. The feet stick to my carpeted floor quite securely, and my guess is that they'd work well on noncarpeted surfaces, too. The hooks that hold up your bike have a generous, rubbery coating, so they won't scratch up your frame. I keep two bikes on the rack, with my regular commuter on the lower one, and the rack is quite stable, even when only the upper bike is on it. For those of you who care, the rack is manufactured in China, so I'm sure Delta's making a fortune, but I had lots of trouble finding a U.S.-made alternative.

(More customer reviews)I really wanted this product to work. Its very well made - german engineering. The concept is great - nothing to drill in the walls.
I read the other reviews, and understand why some like and some didn't like. I spent several hours over three days, and discovered that it depends on the surfaces you are installing it on (ceiling and floor). If you are putting this on carpet, with a textured ceiling - something for it to grab onto - it works. If you are putting it on a smooth concrete floor (in your garage, for example), or a smooth piece of wood (like in an unfinished ceiling in your garage), the stand doesn't grip tight enough and tends to move slightly. Under the weight of bikes, and with vibration from the garage door opener, it can fall over.

assembly is straightforward, but getting the bikes onto the rack requires some
careful maneuvering - and getting 5 bikes on at the same time (which is the capacity of the rack, they say) is impossible without an advanced engineering degree.
In addition, the "stability" bar that folds down doesn't do a lot - you have to come up with some creative ways to use the supplied nylon/cordura cords to keep the bikes from moving around.
Finally, the rack itself has an inelegant, and somewhat ineffective, single screw to
keep it vertical and free from wobble - the screw loosens pretty quickly with road vibration, and it's way too small a diameter to hold the very wide main post in place,
particularly when the rack is fully loaded - this was not well thought at all.
however, we have used the rack several times without any disasters, and expect that we'll use it many more times - both locally and for road trips.
from what I've seen of other products out there, this is about average, and for the price we paid - probably got a good value.
Oh - important side note - you MUST have the adapter bar to mount (kids) mountain bikes or girls frames successfully and well - we forgot this and wound up having to by them locally - all they had were THULE bars - which cost $10 more per bar than the Hollywood version - and the THULE ones really stink! they joints rusted on the first day we had it, and the release nubs started to stick the next day.

Swagman XC-4 Cross-Country 4-Bike Hitch Mount Rack (2-Inch Receiver Hitch) Review

(More customer reviews)At our children's urging we recently purchased bicycles for ourselves so that we could take family rides together. Since we are not experienced cyclists, perhaps I am not the best judge of a bike rack; in fact, this is the first bike rack I have ever owned and perhaps that makes me a mite too critical.
That being said, however, on the whole, I am very pleased with this rack. It holds our four bikes extremely securely, including my women's frame bike (one of the reasons we decided to go with a platform-style bike rack, like this one). The bikes, when firmly fastened, don't budge at all. I like the fact that the bike rack tilts upward, away from the road, which gives us an added sense of security when driving over bumps. I like the fact that the arms ratchet down, rather than screw down, as a competitive rack does, as I find that we are often securing and then releasing the arms to better the position the bikes. Screwing and unscrewing would drive me up the wall. Plus, the ratcheting allows us to get a really snug fit. My husband always gives each arm one last little shove before we take off and the ratcheting feature ensures an incredibly tight fit.
On the downside, we still find getting the bikes on the rack a hassle. We bought the platform-style bike rack because we thought, based on various reviews, that it would be easier to load than a hanging rack -- and perhaps it is. Again here our inexperience shows. Using this bike rack, however, is still like fitting together a puzzle. Even though we've figured out which bikes fit best in which position and we've gotten the tire loops set just right, it's still a challenge. Invariably, the pedals are oriented wrong and getting in the way of installing the next bike, or rubbing against the ratchet arm, or one bike's seat doesn't slide under the other's handlebars exactly as it seemed to the last time we loaded the rack. It can be very frustrating, especially at the end of an exhausting and sweaty ride. (I would note from experience that it's best to stagger the tire loops as dramatically to the left and right as possible to make the loading as easy as possible.)
Also on the downside is the weight of the rack. We store ours in a walk-out basement and it's all my husband can do to get the thing out and up the little hill to our driveway. I definitely could not install the rack myself.
Some additional points: The rack I received was a newer model than the one in the picture. This created a few issues. For one, the assembly instructions which came with our rack was from the older model and completely useless. Moreover, we couldn't even look at the picture on the box for guidance because the picture was of the older model. Assembly was extremely frustrating. Also, if you are looking for a locking hitch pin, note that this rack (at least the newer model which we received) can not use a standard locking hitch pin; it requires a specialized threaded locking hitch pin which only Swagman seems to make.
And finally, the rack we received contained parts in which the powder coating had chipped off and the rack began rusting immediately. We contacted Swagman about this problem. The company representatives we've spoken to so far have been friendly and more than willing to exchange the parts, but even that experience has been frustrating. No one I've dealt with at the company calls back when they say they will, or responds to email, and then when I finally received a box of parts, only one of the three damaged parts was actually in it. I've been promised the remaining parts and expect I will receive them, but this has been a ridiculous hassle. I'm never impressed with poor, unprofessional customer service.

(More customer reviews)First off-- bikes go on and off in a snap. The very first time I used this rack, it probably took me less than a minute. One of the really nice features is the design of the quick-release skewer. The cam mechanism is built into the front of the tray. This has two advantages:
- The long lever means you can also have a lot of travel in the clamp. The skewer goes from being clamped down to being wide enough to remove the fork, even with "lawyer nipples," just by moving the lever. That means no fiddling with the bolt tension every time you want to put the bike on the rack--just drop it in and clamp it.
- The same lock core that locks the bike to the carrier, locks the carrier to the loadbar. Turn one key and the whole assembly is secured.
The rest of the Peloton gives a similar impression of attentive design. The strap that holds the rear wheel down is easy to attach and easy to release. I would say the only downside is the somewhat 1990s-Volvo aesthetics.

Thule 962XT Speedway 3-Bike Trunk Rack Review

(More customer reviews)Recently decided to replace my old Rhode Gear rack (clasps were rusted). Tried the Saris Bones 3 - horrible. Returned it to the store the next day. Very difficult to get the bikes on and off. Now purchased the Thule 962XT from Eastern Mountain Sports ($104 on a 20% discount special). This is a beautiful piece of equipment. Well made, solid, easy to set up and holds three bikes very securely. The no-sway mechanism works well (this seems to be the primary upgrade from the earlier 962 version which now retails for about $105 without discount) and keeps the bikes at a slight angle away from the car. The bikes sit very firmly in place. Still need to secure the front wheels of the bikes with the supplied cynch cord (I prefer to use long pieces of velcro). Great product. A definite buy.

Unfortunately, the plastic piece that straps onto the downtube to keep the bike from swaying put some serious scratches in my bike's paint, wearing it all the way to the shiny aluminum below. Pretty disappointing. If you use this rack, I suggest putting a small towel, like a washcloth, between the downtube and the stabilizer piece.

Thule 914XT Roadway 4 Bike Hitch Carrier Review

The unit consists of a 1.25 inch receiver and a sleeve that screws onto it to convert it to fit into 2" receiver. It takes a couple of minutes to convert between sizes and is a solid, tight fit in either sized reciever.
This rack does not use the standard pin to hold it into the reciever like most reciever based products. Instead this rack uses a treaded bolt that screws into one of the sides (the center of the hitch is solid metal and is threaded). This actually makes for a very solid attachment with minimal "wiggle". The only drawback to this is that you cannot use a locking reciever pin....hence if you live in a high crime area, it would be possible for someone to use a wrench to take out the bolt and walk off with your bike rack. This is not a issue where I live, but could be for some.
The rack pivots in two places. One pivot is at the bottom allowing you to fold it down about 45 degrees to access a hatchback or rear door on a SUV, etc. (Note this only works when no bikes are attached and is primarily meant to allow you to use your vehicles rear hatch while leaving your bike rack attached). The second pivot is at the top and allows you to fold the rack flush with the back of your vehicle (this allows you to leave it attached and still park in the garage with minimal rear clearance). Basically, the rack is built to allow you to leave it attached all summer and still make full use of your vehicle. The pivot locking mechanisms are easy to release and snap back into the upright position.
This rack uses rubber saddles that you rest your bike frame on. There are rubber straps permanently attached at one end with many slots on the other end. You basically pull the straps over the bike frame and lock the strap in the slot that best fits. I have two adult bikes and two childrens bikes that I travel with. Each of my bikes is of a diffent frame design and style (which would be a challenge for any bike rack), so it took me a while to figure out the best order to place them on the rack. After a little experimentation, I found the right combination.
Overall I love this rack ! It surpassed my expectations and even folds up for easy storage. I have a GMC Denali and I leave the rack on all summer. I can easily fold it down when I need to access the rear door. When the bikes are mounted, I can still open the rear window for access into my vehicle.

Hollywood Racks HR400 Road Runner 4-Bike Hitch Mount Rack (2-Inch Receiver)) Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this rack at least 10 years ago, possibly 11 or 12. It has actually lasted longer than the Explorer I bought it for. I have it on a new Silverado now and it works like a champ. The release was originally appealing because the Explorer had the hatch style door and it allowed me to get into the cargo area without taking the bikes off. Now with the truck, I can still let down the bed gate and not have to take the bikes off the rack.
I have carried everything from mountain bikes to kids bikes to my big fat beach cruiser and it has had no problems with bowing or swaying. It's made out of some type of heavy duty iron with very solid welding. It's not lightweight, but it's not a workout either.
Now the best part: I recently realized that I stripped one of the turn knobs that allows the bars to go up and down. I called customer service and they allowed me to drive over to their facility and pick up a replacement. How cool was that? A lot of these manufacturers will not sell directly to the public, and they did with no problem. What's even better is; as I was standing out front putting on the part, the owner happened to come out to see if I needed help. He even gave me my money back stating stating that since I drove all the way over there and it was a little part, he wouldn't charge. I couldn't believe it! I tried to refuse, but he kept giving me back the payment! I was shocked!

The replacement part works great and I am a loyal customer for life. That type of service is unheard of these days. I was happy enough to just be able to get the part immediately. I know this rack will last another ten years, and hopefully I will be able to get other items from this company.

I chose this one partially because of the reviews plus it was available directly through Amazon and the price was reasonable. I found that this rack was extremely well made and easy to attach to my 1996 Honda Accord. I could also tell that it would be able to fit many cars because of the way it was designed. I also liked this one because of the fact it has two additional hold down straps which attach to the sides of the rear trunk. There is a weak link in this product though. It is the quality of the tightening fasteners on the hold down straps. I loaded up three 26" bikes on the rack, which was a bit of a challenge, but did work well once you get the hang of it. I re-tightened all the straps as instructed in the directions before driving off and felt confident I did a good job. My vacation trip was only 150 miles away and I just happened to stop after about 50 miles to check how the bikes were doing. I found that the straps had loosened up and the rack was not secure. I tightened the straps up again and rechecked in another 50 miles to find the same result. If I hadn't stopped from time to time to check, I wonder what the result would have been. So, because the rack is built so well and is easy enough to use, I gave it three stars rather than less because I feel this rack would work great for short trips. However for longer trips, I definitely would not recommend this rack. It's really a shame they didn't come up with a more efficient strap fastener. I am returning this rack today and will try another brand with a close eye on the type of strap fastener used. Advice to you....no matter what brand you purchase, for long trips be sure to double check how secure your rack is from time to time....Hope this helps.

(More customer reviews)I purchased two Thule 982 Bicycle Frame Adapters for Thule 964 Revolver 4-Bike Hitch Mount Rack from the Amazon retailer, Rack Attack. PROS: 1) Because of the numerous different bicycle frame configurations, it will quickly become apparent to the strap/hitch carrier user that mounting the bicycles level is difficult. Attaching the Thule 982 Bicycle Frame Adapter ends to the bike's handle bar and seat stems will make this procedure much easier. For this application, the product seems well designed. CONS: 1) One of adapters I received from the Amazon retailer had rusted bolts while still inside the packaging! However, shortly after being exposed to the ouside environment during use, all the lock bolts on both adaptors quickly rusted. At the stated MSRP, stainless steel hardware would have been the fair and better choice. 2) The rubberized coating on the metal ends of the adaptors will ultimately tear or wear down due to use, UVA exposure, etc.. As a result, the exposed metal ends of the adaptors could damage the bike's finish. Take care to protect the rubberized coating during use and storage. In conclusion, it is my opinion that the Thule 982 Frame Adaptor is both a well designed and needed accessory for the strap/hitch carrier user.

I have a nice lightweight road bike that I don't want to clutter with a fixed rack but I wanted to have the capability to carry some extra gear or run some errands when I felt like it. This rack is PERFECT for that. I am impressed with the high quality material and welds, and the quick release function works great. I just did a 40-mile ride to Costco and stocked up with a rack trunk (fits perfectly on the Delta rack under my saddle) full of vitamins etc. The rack was rock-solid and vibration free. The tag that comes with the rack actually states a carry capacity of 40 lbs vs. the 25 mentioned here but I would be a bit wary of that much load. Very high quality, nice lightweight rack with super-easy on and off mounting. Five stars all the way for my purposes.

Gear Up Grand Stand Single Bike Floor Stand Review

(More customer reviews)Simply put, I don't feel comfortable parking my road bike on this. I purchased this GrandStand to park my road bike properly in the garage rather than lean it against the wall. But after using it a couple of times I noticed the stand holds the bike in vertical position by the spokes. There is just too much lateral pressure on the spokes especially that the bike tends to go slightly to one side or the other and you can see the spokes temporarily bending by the weight of the bike. There is another thing that I've noticed, depending on the bike derailleur and what gear it's in, when parking the bike with the rear tire, the stand might get between the derailleur and the spokes, pushing the derailleur away from the tire. This might potentially harm the derailleur.
Not wanting to feel that I've wasted my purchased, I tried to use it with my cheap mountain bike, but quickly realized the heavy mountain bike would put even more pressure on the spokes than the road bike.
