We began to offer free bikes for our guests but the maintenance issue, particularly flat tires, was making us regret our decision. A flat tire could cost us $30, especially if an employee went to the store and then spent an hour changing the tube.
Enter Slime! No more flat tires. It's that simple. I now ride my personal bike about 18 miles a week. After a recent trip the rear tire started to deflate. I yanked a big screw out, pumped it up, watched the green goo bubble out and it's fine again. Great stuff!

(More customer reviews)These things are expensive because you can use them only once per tire. They may have prevented some flats, but one time the kevlar material actually cut through the tube causing the flat! When you do get a flat using them, you must "boot" the tire at the puncture site or the new tube will dimple slightly into the tire puncture hole; when that happens the kevlar liner will cut the new tube.

(More customer reviews)I like the slime tubes. They have worked well for me when I have had a puncture I've been able to ride for days without patching the hole or putting air in it. When you get a puncture you get loud hissing because the slime is spraying out of the tire. If you stop with the tire pointed down the hole will fill in with slime and you can continue riding. The only problems are the stem on the presta valve version unscrews to come apart (I'm guessing so the manufacturer can put the slime in)and as a result sometimes you get a leak and have to take it apart and clean the seal. The other thing is when using a presta to schraeder adapter, because it screws down tight, when unscrewing it I've had the stem loosen and pop off. A nice pop at 70 psi. Over all they've saved me a few times during my commute on wet or cold days and nights.

Slime Bicycle Tire Liners Twin Pack (26-Inch) Review

(More customer reviews)I ran these in my mountain bike for a while with over 60psi in my tires for commuting to work...they worked great with that much pressure. When I went down to trail pressure (50psi or so) I got one ride in before they caused a laceration all the way around the tube that was not patchable...there was literally a cut all the way around the tube from the edge of the liners. Other brands (Tuffy Liners, for example) have a tapered edge that is not as sharp as these. Slime needs to redesign these things in a big way. I love the thickness of them for the thorns I deal with, but they really need a tapered edge. I would avoid them.

(More customer reviews)The Slime tube sealant, i.e. the green goop that comes in bottles, works. These slime tires are a gimmick; they only succeed in making a mess.
I replaced 3 old flat bike tubes with these slime tubes, and each and every one was flat within a month.
I should be more specific: These tubes are okay for a street bike because there is very little debri on a street capable of puncturing a tire, thus the slime never sees the light of day. For a mountain bike these things are a disaster. Actually, they go flat more readily than a normal tire tube, likely because the tubes themselves are cheaply made.Road bikes should find these tubes 'suitable', barely, and only because they don't encounter punctures as often. I don't recommend them. Get a bottle of the Slime sealant and pair that with a strong, well made tube.

Slime Lite Tube Presta Valve Bicycle Tube (700c x 19-25mm) Review

(More customer reviews)I ride 100+ miles per week. There are times where I've had 4 flats per ride. I figured I would try the slime product. This slime lite tube doesn't work very well. Also, one rating commented on how the green slime marked where the hole is so it was easy to find the leak and patch it. However, that rater also noted,that they cleaned the area and patched it, but the patch didn't hold. This leaking of the patch was my experience as well. If you end up with a hole or puncture and the slime doesn't work, and then attempt to patch it, the slime eventually pushes under the patch. Then the patch doesn't hold. The patches I used were slimes own green self stick patches!Years ago, I found that the Parks clear patches work very well. I just found them again and appreciate how well they work. I recommend the parks clear patches. The big difference is that patches are inexpensive and you can put a few in your wallet. The slime is not effective. This idea is nice, but unfortunately it doesn't work well.
In general, after a few flats (say about 10) you get very good at patching a hole in a tube. I can usually find the hole and patch with out even taking the wheel of the bike. It takes maybe 5 minutes. Years ago, (35) sears roebuck used to sell a heavy duty tube. As a kid I was tough on bikes and the tubes held up. I think you may be better off trying heavier gauge rubber tubes rather than waste money on this product.

Mr. Tuffy Bicycle Tire Liner Review

(More customer reviews)I live in New Mexico and we have some nasty thorns on our trails. So far the Tuffy's alone have kept me from constantly repairing inner-tubes. I highly recommend.
UPDATE (May 28, 2009): 40+ Hours of trail time and not a single flat. I have also put these in my wife's tires too. Great investment for those who are willing to sacrifice a little bit of extra weight for more ride time and overall enjoyment. A little bit of advice on installation, I used some Permatex weatherstripping adhesive to hold the liner in the tire for easier installation.
