We began to offer free bikes for our guests but the maintenance issue, particularly flat tires, was making us regret our decision. A flat tire could cost us $30, especially if an employee went to the store and then spent an hour changing the tube.
Enter Slime! No more flat tires. It's that simple. I now ride my personal bike about 18 miles a week. After a recent trip the rear tire started to deflate. I yanked a big screw out, pumped it up, watched the green goo bubble out and it's fine again. Great stuff!

Avenir Thorn Resistant Tube 700x18-25c Review

(More customer reviews)These are heavy duty tubes. I did not expect them to be as thick as they are and I mean they are thick. I installed these tubes on two of my bikes so far but haven't had a chance to go for a long ride yet. But I didn't have any problems with installation. I removed the original tubes and installed these and I used one of the ORIGINAL tubes as a spare in case I do have a flat. I would not use one of these as a spare as they are about the weight of three regular tubes combined.

I have a Burley trailer that uses 20x1.75 tubes and even ordered tubes for it as I don't want any flats. And even if I do these are so thick that I could probably run the tires flat and still keep going.
I was leary about ordering these at first but at this time I am very please with this product. Just take your time and make sure that the tire seats itself properly on the rim and I would recommend these to others and I will also update my review of them after I get some miles on these tubes.
Since these tubes are so thick and heavy it might take some more effort to pedal because of the rotational force that is involved. I don't think I would use these on my road bike because of that. But for the commuter bike that I plan on riding to work (7 miles one way) or the bike for pulling by trailer it won't matter that much to me. I don't want to fix a flat. If you are planning on riding a long distance (10 to 20 miles or more) stay with the lighter tubes and just carry a spare tube in case you have a flat. It will take more effort to pedal but you won't be fixing flats all the time.UPDATE....I had these for five months and the problem that I have had was that the brass is not sealed to the rubber as it should and the air is leaking out around it. I don't know of anyway to seal this so the tube is trashed. This is the first time that I have had any problems with the filler valves messing up.

They may have prevented some flats, but one time the kevlar material actually cut through the tube causing the flat! When you do get a flat using them, you must "boot" the tire at the puncture site or the new tube will dimple slightly into the tire puncture hole; when that happens the kevlar liner will cut the new tube.

(More customer reviews)So far so good with my first trial of these tubes. I've only gone a couple hundred miles on them, but I can say with certainty that the smooth valve stem is an absolute must. I tried them because of that after 3 flats in a row on Bontrager super lights all failing at the valve stem area. I recommend based on performance so far. No flat and they hold air well (I run at 110 to 120 psi).

(More customer reviews)At mile 9 of the North Fork Century in Long Island New York I got a blow out on my front wheel. I didn't know that this had happened except that I saw all of the green goo shooting out of the hole. I stopped a couple of seconds later and within about a minute the hole had sealed. There was minimal loss of tire pressure. I was able to get to complete the ride that day and I was able to use the tire the following weekend. All without having to refill my tube. Amazing.
All the tubes I buy now are Slime Lites.

Slime Bicycle Tire Liners Twin Pack (26-Inch) Review

(More customer reviews)I ran these in my mountain bike for a while with over 60psi in my tires for commuting to work...they worked great with that much pressure. When I went down to trail pressure (50psi or so) I got one ride in before they caused a laceration all the way around the tube that was not patchable...there was literally a cut all the way around the tube from the edge of the liners. Other brands (Tuffy Liners, for example) have a tapered edge that is not as sharp as these. Slime needs to redesign these things in a big way. I love the thickness of them for the thorns I deal with, but they really need a tapered edge. I would avoid them.

Kenda Kontender Tire 700 x 26C Aramid Bead BSW Review

(More customer reviews)I'm not looking for superlative performance from a $20 tire but they should last a few miles. I bought 4 of these tires. I ride a short 10 mile commute on normal asphalt road surface, moderate temperatures, less than 220 lbs with bike, and inflate to 90-95 psi. First pair of tires deformed within 500 miles and had unrideable bulges within a few months. The third tire ripped off the bead on first inflation and fourth tire is already warping after having it on the rim for a week. Significantly more flats on the first pair than with gatorskins.

Was disappointed somewhat in the fit of the last tube I installed - the thorn resistant portion of the tube didn't fit well against the outside of the tire, tending to spin to the sidewall.

(More customer reviews)I live in New Mexico and we have some nasty thorns on our trails. So far the Tuffy's alone have kept me from constantly repairing inner-tubes. I highly recommend.
UPDATE (May 28, 2009): 40+ Hours of trail time and not a single flat. I have also put these in my wife's tires too. Great investment for those who are willing to sacrifice a little bit of extra weight for more ride time and overall enjoyment. A little bit of advice on installation, I used some Permatex weatherstripping adhesive to hold the liner in the tire for easier installation.

(More customer reviews)I've been riding a track bike in urban environments for years and I can't stress how valuable thorn-resistant 700c tubes have been to me. I ride slick, thin tires and skid stop a moderate amount. I also ride at night quite a bit and seem to always be ride through glass and other junk. With standard-thickness tubes I average about a flat a week. (and when that flat occurs during my commute to work, I f'ing screwed) Using thorn-resistant tubes I've gone months without a flat. I've even worn thru 3 back tires while using the same tube. For urban riding--especially when wearing out your tires skidding--these suckers are worth their weight in gold. I believe most shops don't carry them because they'll lose out on that $5 a week you would be spending on tubes.
I don't know what that other reviewer was talking about, because I've found that thorn-resistant tubes hold PSI, waaaay longer than standard tubes. I can pump up to 130PSI and my tires remain rock solid for almost two weeks...
I would have given five stars, but they are super heavy. Not recommended for racing.

Butyl TUBE PV Light 60mm Review

(More customer reviews)I have used the Conti Race 700 tubes for many years and, everytime I've tried to go lighter I've come back because all of my experience with significantly lighter tubes (50-75 grams) have been very poor. These tubes may not be the lightest at 90-102 grams but they are very, very long lasting (for me, typically 4000 miles each) with the majority of failures being in the stem base eventually separating after many miles of use. Not to be cute, but I've stemmed the problem by holding onto the value nut while removing my tire pump and, with this technique, hope that even this failure can be reduced because, doing it this way, should reduce the stress inherent in tire pump removal.
You can't go wrong with these beauties.
