(More customer reviews)I was looking for replacement pads for my road bicycle brakes. I ride vintage steel-frame road bicycles with Campy parts, including Campy brakes. As the rumor goes, vintage Campy brakes are more like speed adjusters than true brakes. I needed to boost the braking power of my brakes while also eliminating the annoying squeals. These lightweight pads are positively the most effective brake pads I have used in my 30 years of cycling. They grab positively and have very little fade even in steep descents. The built-in adjustments make toe-in easy. Recommended!

Angle adjustment is very limited in range and degree of freedom. At the end, I gave up on the set installation. Too bad it only looks good. I give 2 stars for its good intent.

Shimano 2010 105 SPD-SL Road Bike Pedals - PD-5700 Review

(More customer reviews)As I write this review on 8/1/2010, the product description for this pedal is describing the Shimano PD-5610 105 SPD-SL Road Bike Pedal, not the PD-5700. Also noteworthy is that this product is described as being Silver when in fact the photo and actual product received is Black.
Putting all that aside, this is my first SPD-SL type pedal. I had previously been using Shimano PDM535 SPD pedal on my road bike. I did not really have any issues with those pedals and I actually enjoyed being able to walk more easily with the mountain bike shoes and SPD cleats as compared to my friends who all used road bike shoes and Shimano/Look style cleats.
As I've increased the amount of cycling that I do (100-125 miles/week) I wanted to get a more practical shoe for road cycling and decided it was time to buy new pedals as well. For shoes I got the new Shimano SH-R086L Shimano SH-R086L Cycling Shoe - Men's
Since this is my first use of this type of pedal, I have no prior experience with them. But I must say the pedals are much easier to clip in to than I was imagining. I actually think they are way easier to clip in to than my SPD pedals.
The amount of float is good for me and it is also quite easy to dial in the preferred amount of tension on the pedal using a 2.5mm allen wrench. The adjustment bolt clicks when turned and by counting the clicks you can easily ensure both pedals are set with the same tension.
Concerning the cleat itself, I was surprised to find it was plastic with rubber bumpers to facilitate walking and afford some protection to the cleat I suppose. The cleat does not inspire me with any confidence that it will be long-lasting but only time will tell. I can say that right now it's making me pretty nervous... I have only gone for a very short test ride so that I could adjust the cleat position on the shoe and in that short time of clipping into the pedal a few times, the cleat is already showing obvious signs of wear. Can this be normal? I've uploaded a photo in the customer images area.
The quality of construction seems to be of typical Shimano good quality. I nearly spent quite a bit more on pedals by considering the Ultegra version of this pedal, but I decided that this pedal offered such a good value with not much downside compared to the Ultegra, that I voted with my wallet and got the 105 PD-5700 instead. So far I am quite happy with the pedals. For those people moving to a clipless pedal for the first time, this would also be a good choice.

Shimano CN-6600 Ultegra 10-Speed Chain Review

(More customer reviews)I've used the CN-6600 chains for a long time and have always been pleased with their performance. However, on my rebuilt bike the new CN-6700 chain was installed. @ about 1,000 miles for no apparent reason a stiff link developed. In IMHO the bike comapnies are pushing the envelope toooooo far. Cutting the sides out of the plates of the links and hollow pins to make the chain a bit lighter. While the 6700 chain is asymetrical and supposed to shift better...I notice no difffrence in shifting from the excellent 6600 model. So as long as I can get my hands on the 6600 that's the chain I'll use. I ride about 6,000 miles a year and change chains every 2.000 miles.

(More customer reviews)This brake system is an absolute must when used with the 6700 STI levers. The leverage needed is very minimal compared to older caliper designs. If you have the new levers then you need these. Have always had success when using shimano calipers (105, Ultegra) and not so much luck with Tektro and Cane Creek. To me braking is important and I like to have MTB disc-like performance. These brakes give me confidence.

Shimano PD-A520 SPD Pedal Review

(More customer reviews)I had never used cleats before so I started off with this. From the look and reviews, it looked good and I bought it. I have been using it for past couple of months. I usually ride 40-60miles every weekend (MTB) and another 20-30miles during the week and have been biking overall for a long time (couple of thousands of miles till now)
Prior to buying these pedals, cycling was more of a 'push work', which these pedals eased like any other SPDs. Here are some points though
Pros
1. Getting in and out of them is easy, no grouses about them. I fell only once with them when biking in mud, as the cleats in the shoes were surrounded with mud and these SPDs just got stuck, won't let the shoe get out. But I think that is a obvious thing #I was told that everybody falls atleast once when they move to cleats for cycling!#
2. They hold on tight. Nice power transfer.
3. Apparently light weight.
Cons
1. The opposite side flat cannot be used for non-cleated riding. The middle cylindrical part is too bulging to make the rear side usable. So, essentialy, it can be used only from one side. That is really bad if you want to just hop in your normal shoes, or worst, if you are in your cleated shoes and still want to use the normal pedal #like I prefer when going on tricky mountain terrains where tendency to fall is high, so you'd better want to ride the bike without the cleats#
2. The upper side is heavy and always rotates downwards. So, when taking off, it is difficult to rotate the pedal to get it in correct position, takes some time. Looks a small grouse, but in the long run is often irritating.
Overall, if given a choice, I'd rather not go for these pedals again, but instead go for something like PD-M324, which is just a few bucks more and rids off the cons mentioned above.
