(More customer reviews)You need these to convert from downtube shifters to something more modern. I never felt safe reaching down all the time to shift. When coming to a stop i'd often avoid downshifting to a low gear because of this, thus having to be in a high gear out of a stop. Used only one on my 1994 TREK 1220 road bike, for the 7 speed rear. Put a trigger shifter "Shimano STX/Alivio Rapidfire Plus 7-Speed Shifter" on the 7/8"(22.2mm) quill portion of my stem, the shifters mounting bracket can be losened and swiveled to work this way. I left the front chainring as friction shift as the 3 speed indexed trigger shifter didn't seem to match up well enough not to be problematic. I hardly shift out of the middle chainring anyhow. Both of these cable stops have adjustments for cable tension. Highly recomend this product.

(More customer reviews)Ok, well seeing as how there are almost NO reviews for bike components, I will write one! I love these stem shifters. I rebuilt a hybrid Nishiki for a friend of mine and seeing as how the frame was too fat for downtube shifters without brazing, I opted for the old-style stem shifter setup instead. This never fails after proper adjustment, and SOLID clicks. For some, this might be a little difficult to push/pull the levers, but it gets easier over time. Just break it in a little! Absolutely no accidental shifts caused by small nudges. If you've got a need for a 7-speed shifter, give these a try. I don't think it's stated, but cabling is included, however, cable HOUSING is not. Unlike those "vintage" shifters, (I feel) there's no risk of bending or breaking the levers. They are pretty thick wedges that I much prefer to the flimsy feeling metal tabs that Sunrace was selling. Shift as rapidly and as hard as you want and these will get the job done quickly and accurately. (I was stuck between this and Sunrace for this price range, but now it's no contest after trying out both.)
For the price, no better alternative, unless you want to be a "vintage" purist.

I had a problem, that now i realize was my derailleur, but the left shifter pretty much broke off. The main support parts on these is made up of plastic.

Shimano SY20-A Downtube Mount 7 speed Road Shifter Set. Review

(More customer reviews)First of, it works well. Pure functionality the only complaint is that the rear shifter is index only with no option to go friction. As far as I can tell, it won't fit post mounts, so you have to use the supplied clamp. Subjectively, the look is out of place for a vintage steel road bike and the rear shifter has that huge barrel off to the side it. However I like the click of the rear shifter, but I don't care for the feel of the left's friction. I doubt also that one can buy a handle bar mount to put those on bar ends. The Sunrace 7 speed shifter I feel is a better buy due to the classic look and the option to mount them on downtubes with built in post (possibly on bar end pods) as well as the friction feel on the front shifter.

I could only find these shifters on your website, way up in the NE but the shipping was reasonable and quick. A warning that there's no adjuster knob on the 2(which handles three eaisily) shifter could've saved me some searching on the floor or a parts diagram would do. Only took some quick adjusting and the indexing was perfect. Thank you for saving my touring bike from the scrap heap and me from drop tube shifters.
