(More customer reviews)I spend more time on my CompuTrainer than I care to admit and so far the Continental Hometrainer Tire is the best option that I've found. The tire is quieter and has a better road feel than regular road tires. The tire also leave less tire debris scattered across the room and lasts much, much longer than regular road tires and other trainer tires, such as the Vittoria Home Trainer.
Caveat:
It might be a fluke, but my last Continental Hometrainer was the first time that I've used the black version and it was nearly impossible to mount on the rim. I've probably gone through 6 sets of the yellow version and, although difficult to mount, they were not nearly as hard to mount as the last black version. I'll still give it 5 stars because I won't have to worry about mounting a new tire until sometime next year.

Kinetic PRO Trainer Dual Fly-Wheel Trainer Review

(More customer reviews)I was not sure which one I would like more: Schwinn 240 (recumbent bike) or Kinetic Pro 2009. Well, finally I bought both :)
OK, Schwinn 240 is SUPER quite, while Kinetic Pro gives you SUPER realistic ride.
Both machines are fantastic. I ended up putting Kinetic Pro in the basement where I can ride fast and loud (without warring too much about noise), while Schwinn 240 went into my living room in front of my TV... When my friends are coming over they always want to ride my Schwinn... I used to watch news sitting in the sofa - those days are gone. I am riding my recumbent bike instead.
OK, now, about Kinetic. This thing was designed for a serious workout. You just CAN NOT resist a temptation to accelerate at some point switching to the higher gear and getting the heart pumping your blood "nicely". I bought a special tire (Ultra Sport Hometrainer by Continental - orange color) recommended by a salesman in the local bike store. He was right: now the ride became VERY quite and the tire is not getting hot. NOTE: I had to adjust the tire on the wheel in the bike store (I did not have a special tool to do it by myself). The tire for some reasons was not evenly placed around the wheel: one side was slightly higher then another. Because of that my trainer vibrated like there was an earth quake. The adjustment took less then 5 min. My advise to you is (if you buy this tire in the bike store) bring your rear wheel and ask them to put in on right in the store.
... this Kinetic Pro Trainer is a really good investment - it's so true...

Minoura RDA-800 Rim Drive Trainer " Red 5 Levels. Review

(More customer reviews)I shopped until my head hurt...fluid? magnetic? tire or rim? etc. I opted for this rim drive, and I'm thankful I made the right choice the first time. I bought the "dial" versus remote version - your gears are the best resistance adjustment you can have! My set-up is a Trek 820 - Even though this rim driven unit doesn't care what tires you have, I changed the stock knobbies to Kenda Kross Plus Front/Rear Slick XC Tire, 26 x 1.95" (road bike manners w/ trail edges). Popping your bike in and out of the unit is a snap.
Anyway, this thing is solid to the core. Whisper quiet (not having owned a tire-drive unit, I can't compare, but this thing is zero sound). I have 4 months of heavy use on it, and I couldn't be happier. Price was right also - I think from "GreenMountain" for about $132. Save the $20 for a CycleOps block (that I bought)- this unit only raises the rear wheel about 2" above the front - just get a cheap small riser or fashion your own.
Haven't selected a new bike computer yet - looking for a good wireless unit that can handle the extra distance to the rear wheel (most max at 24" and require the back of unit face the wheel with the magnet).
Bottom line = I was looking for a compliment and occasional alternative to my home treadmill and dumbells - without dropping $700+ for a bulky, single purposed bike machine - this was exactly what I needed, and it reintroduced me to an old friend - my bike!

Minoura Action Roller Advance Wide Bicycle Trainer Review

(More customer reviews)I bought these rollers because the weather where I live is just terrible. We get 100+ summers and dry, frigid winters, so rollers seemed like a great option for me. I'm not a professional cyclist by any means, but I still think this is a great purchase.
The Good:
For the price, these are an awesome deal. The materials are high quality, and it was easy to assemble (took about 20 minutes).
They're relatively quiet.
Accommodates my 700cc bike easily.
A lot more fun and involving than a stationary bike, so time really flies by!
Folds up easily for storage.
Haven't had any rubber come off my tires! (I've seen videos where this is the case with other rollers)
The Bad:
This can be said about any rollers, but there IS a learning curve. It only took me about an hour to really get the hang of it, but there were some spills along the way. It's a lot easier if you have some kind of step to get on because you can easily lose your balance otherwise.
The website claims that since the diameter of the rollers is shorter than conventional rollers, there is more resistance when pedaling. Supposedly, it's comparable to cycling against a slight headwind, but I don't really see it that way. There might be some more-than-expected resistance when starting out, but once you're going over 10 mph, it's smooth sailing.
Verdict:
Love 'em. Great price, great quality, great investment. If you're thinking about buying rollers, these are a great starter set.

(More customer reviews)I purchased the Kurt Kenetic two months ago, and am thrilled with its performance and quality. If you are considering purchasing a trainer, fluid trainers are the way to go. Basically, there are four major types of trainers: Magnetic,Wind, Rim Driven, and Fluid. The later is the best, hands down! Fluid resistance trainers are more quiet, smoother and more realistic than any of the others mentioned. The only drawback to the fluid trainer is that over time they can leak resistance fluid. There are three companies that have solutions to this drawback. I highly recommend that you research all three and test them out where possible. A good review page is Roadbikereview.com . The CycleOps Fluid 2 is ultra smooth and quiet. They have a limmited warranty on thier products, but are known for standing behind their trainers for life, and will fix any issues probably for life! The One Up Trainer has all the advantages of a fluid trainer, but uses no fluid in its designe, it is made in America and carries a life time warranty. The Kurt Kinetic, which I decided to purchase, is IMHO, the best because it utilizes a sealed fluid unit and therefore is guranteed not to leak. These three units are roughly the same price, around $260.00. Steep? Think of it this way, This product is going to be your companion for many winters, so don't buy a loud, crappy one with crappy customer service! You'll regret later that you didn't spend the extra $75 or $80 on a quality product. I also tested the Blackburn Fluid, $100 bucks cheaper, not bad for price, but since it is new to the market I was unsure about durabillity or how well they stand behind thier trainers after warranty expiration. I have heard amazing testimonials of how Cyclops, Kurt, and One Up, have replaced parts and even whole trainers, no questions asked! Google these three companies and see for yourself.

(More customer reviews)This is a fine product. No complaints on how it works, but it is very difficult to tell which one is the right side and which one is the left. I tried to order a second unit but ended up with the worng one.
Here's the key. Right and left are from the prespective of the rider while using the rollers.
Standing at the back of the roller frame, the Right Hand flywheel attaches to the Right Hand Rail of the frame.
The product pictures (on Amazon) do not help and I found no information about this on the Kreitler web site.

The trainer is very well made and assembly took a few minutes. the first issue I had was the Butterfly nut, which holds the clamp so it doesn't back out when in use, was cracked. I called and left a message to the vender and after not hearing back from them I sent a email. After requesting some info I received the replacement part in the mail a few days later. Replaced the part and it is good as new.
My wife has ridden her bike on the trainer for 20 to 30 minutes a day 5 days a wek since we received it a few weeks ago. No issues with it whatsoever. Yes it makes noise, but so do all trainers.
At one time I owned a bike and ski shop and sold trainers and this one is as good as some that I sold for more than twice the price.

CycleOps Wind Indoor Bicycle Trainer Review

(More customer reviews)I have an older mag trainer that I used to use for indoor workouts. I pulled it out this season to use, but became disappointed with the performance since I would have to get off the bike to adjust for more resistance. I did some shopping around for a replacement, decided on this one. It's well built and gives a great workout with progressive resistance. Now I don't need to get off the bike when I want to go harder, it can be done by pedaling faster and shifting gears. The progressive resistance is closely emulating what you'd feel on the road.
It's not as noisy as one reviewer states. Yes, it's noisier then a fluid trainer, but not much noisier then my old mag trainer. There was a strange noise when I first used the trainer, but that was overcome by tightening the bolt on the resistance unit's axle. Once tightened the noise coming out of the trainer was just like a wind. The faster the wheel moves, the noise does pick up, but not to the point you can't hear a stereo or TV.
I chose this model over a fluid model for a couple of reasons. First, the axiom that simpler is better is true here. No fluid leaks (which is an issue with this company's fluid models). All parts look like I can diagnose the issue and get it fixed without having to go back to my fluid dynamics textbooks from grad school. The second reason is price. A trainer's lifespan is measured in hours of use, and may only last a season or two. I'd rather replace one of these again then to pay $350-$400 every couple years.
I didn't buy another mag trainer even though they've improved since my last one was built, with remote shifting and sturdier components. One issue with mag trainers is that at some point, you'll surpass the magnet's force and all of a sudden be coasting. Not fun if you are in the middle of a sprint. Also, there is no coasting on purpose, so you can't ease up every now and then without the wheel stopping.
I suggest you invest in the riser block for your front wheel, and well cushioned gloves when using a trainer like this one. Sitting in one position for an extended time like you do with these trainers requires some comfort measures to be in place.

(More customer reviews)Let's put this right up front: I don't like riding on trainers. I would rather be outside riding, but the fact is, I live in Colorado and there are a few months of the year where I have to make a decision: freeze or ride the trainer. While I don't like riding trainers, I like freezing even less.
This trainer makes it almost palatable. It is incredibly stable and smooth. The progressive resistance feels very natural, and you know you're working if you are spinning anything over about 18mph. The mat is actually fairly nice (and a real necessity if you're doing a long ride on the trainer because YOU WILL SWEAT).
They didn't really mention it in the write-up, but it has a release mechanism that makes it faster than normal to remove the bike. One of the things I hate most about a trainer is when it happens to be nice enough outside to ride, it's a pain to get the bike out easily. Cyclops has a good quick release, but I'm riding this one because I've seen too many cyclops that leak. Anyway, this release isn't as elegant as the cyclops, but you don't have to turn the bolt 100 times to release the bike.
Overall, I'm very happy with this trainer. I've got ~300 miles on it so far and I don't want to cry because it's still too cold to ride outside. One thing to note (if you're a new trainer rider), put a fan in front of you!

Aosom 17b Mag Indoor Bicycle Bike Trainer Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this for $82.00 total shipped on ebay. I will keep the trainer, but I am not recommending it. This was a brand new item from ebay so it was Aosom's factory that has screwed up this one.
1. I had to take apart the magnetic wheel in order to screw the plates back on such that mechanism could turn the plate to alter the resistance.
2. There is a burr on the aluminum roller. Not terrible but could damage a good tire.
3. This is described as having a bike handle mountable resistance switch. This is not exactly true. The switch is made from a brake cable attached to the magnetic wheel's housing and strung to a plastic dial which can be mounted to the handle bar. BUT
A. The length of the cable is so long that there are no bikes this long to make it functional. You are forced to take the resistance wheel housing apart, remove the cable from the mountable switch and housing and replace the cable with another of your needed length.
B. The mountable switch is also a joke anyway. It is shoddily designed and made from very cheap plastic. If you can get it to work, which I still have yet to discover, it will be very difficult to turn the knob and actually have it remain in gear.
4. There are many cheap brands of magnetic resistance trainers from companies that I believe are more credible in product description. I am annoyed at how this company has pumped up the description with bells and whistles that don't chime well at all.
5. As for the actual workout you will get on this, it will be a low resistance ride even with the greatest amount of magnetic resistance you can apply.
6. If I wasn't poor. I would buy a $300 trainer that I have tested out in person at a sporting goods shop first.
7. Be careful, unless you are willing to putter around with your purchase.
An addendum:
After puttering around now for awhile, I have discovered that magnetic resistance on any trainer is useless..at least from my experience on cheap models.
I wanted more resistance so bought some neodymium magnets to beef up the flywheel. What I found was that leaving the whole apparatus off of the trainer made not a minuscule difference in resistance. I hadn't messed with my bikes own gears, but now that I have..this is what is pulling the weight.
My recommendation would be to stay away from the trainers with all the extra bells and whistles, save yourself $10.00. They are pure marketing nothing more.

CycleOps Riser Block for Indoor Bicycle Trainers Review

(More customer reviews)Strangely, I ordered the riser block, but received the climbing block in the mail. Not that it matters, same price, same overall function. This product does exactly what it claims, and honestly, I don't think the CycleOps trainer can be used comfortably without it. If your front wheel isn't propped up on something, you'll be in an oddly downward facing position at all times, which I can't imagine would be desirable. One complaint would be that the different slots for the tire aren't marked or numbered in any way to let you know which setting you've used, so I feel like everytime I set up the trainer, I need to spin the block around and sit the bike in it, then look at the angle the bike is at, then reposition if necessary. It's just molded plastic, is it too difficult to have a little number 1, 2 and 3 set into it somewhere? Sort of annoying, but aside from that, the block is good. It even helps keep the bike upright while you're playing around properly securing the back wheel to the trainer.

(More customer reviews)This is my first go around with a trainer. I looked at tons of them online and finally decided just to go for it. This one serves it's purpose just fine, and I bought it for less than $100, and free shipping. It is somewhat loud, but that is just the sound of my tire riding on the roller. If I had a smoother tread it would quiet down. All steel frame, easy to assemble and adjust. I just use my gears on the bike to increase tension while riding. I set it up in my home theater room and watch DVD's (with headphones on) while peddlin away. No more missed workouts due to weather. Highly recommend.

(More customer reviews)It's evident from looking at Aosom's website, reading the enclosed instructions, and skimming their "Thank You" letter (also enclosed) that Aosom did not have anybody fluent in English review any of the above items.
Thankfully there were pictures on the instructions, or it would have taken me quite a while to figure out how to put this trainer together.
Once together (and bike lugged from the garage up the stairs and inside), it's exactly as described. It does make noise, yes, but not so much that I can't hear my television or that will bother the neighbors. Reviews for other trainers equate the sound made to a vacuum cleaner... not the case here. The Aosom 16b trainer is quieter than I expected. And sturdier. Given the price paid, I wasn't sure what to expect, honestly. I'm rather pleased with the final product.
It would have received five stars, but the not-so-great instructions takes it down to four.
(Note: If you do get a trainer (this one or similar), make sure you get a riser like the Forza Riser Block Gray to keep the front tire in place. While it's not absolutely necessary, it will make a difference.)
