(More customer reviews)The bearings work exceptionally well, and they are completely sealed cartridge bearings. The top adjusting race and lock nut require a 1-1/8" open end wrench to tighten properly since they are eight sided nuts and a standard six or twelve point socket will not fit on them.
The entire bearing is well constructed, strong, and very light. My only complaint is the upper and lower bearing cups (external races) fit loosely on the head tube. They do work extremely well even with this issue. My forks quill has a bend to it and would bind up when spinning the bars with the stock bearings, but spin easily and freely with this headset.

MKS Lambda Platform Pedal Review

(More customer reviews)These pedals were apparently made by MKS with design input from Rivendell Bicycle Works, the traditional/retro-grouch bicycle shop and boutique bike maker run by Grant Petersen. Rivendell calls these the Grip King Pedals, and as near as I can tell these are the same product.
Go to rivbike.com to read Grant's rant about clipless pedals, which he calls the "great shoe ruse," and his impassioned argument about why it's silly to use clipless pedals/cleats on bicycles (unless you're racing).
I'm not ready to drink the Rivendell Kool-Aid and give up my clipless pedals, but these MKS Lambda pedals are really a nice change of pace. They allow you to ride a bike with "normal" shoes, but they still give you enough grip that your feed won't slide around. Because of the wide platform surfaces, they also avoid pressure on your feet and help you avoid foot pain or "hot spots" which sometimes can occur when riding bikes w/cleats.
They appear to be well made, and are not as heavy as you might think from looking at the photo (though certainly not as light as good clipless pedals).

My single-speed is no longer a drop-bar bike, now it's a practical "city bike" with salvaged bars from an old 3-speed. Works for my pushing-50 wrists and neck. If they looked a little more "retro" and less "MTB" for the same price I'd have given them 5 stars.
