(More customer reviews)This is a well designed adjustable stem with interlocking "teeth" to lock it into the selected position. It seems to be as strong as any non-adjustable stem.
It is longer than a regular stem, so it can be angled up and raised quite a bit and still be forward enough. It allowed me to raise the handlebar height so I could also raise the seat height without causing a lot of neck strain. This gave me a much better riding position. Great!!

(More customer reviews)First off, let me just say that everything else about this stem is fine with great vintage styling on the cheap.
My copy had a terrible clamp alignment. Meaning the clamp hole was not machined out straight, causing my bar to be clamped in at a slight offset angle. Since I purchased this for a junker I simply went ahead and grinded (causing the chrome plating to peel) it out and shimmed the other side to realign the bar. This shouldn't have been necessary, but what can you expect from a cheapo stem.
I would probably still buy this again if I had to build another junker in hopes that it was an one off incident. However, if these are mass produced, it's very likely the entire lot is misaligned. Ask seller to check before shipping.

PRO PLT Road/MTB AL Stem Review

(More customer reviews)Like most people, when I first started riding my skinny-tired road bike, I needed a more upright posture. But as I got more comfortable at riding my road bike, I got more proficient at riding in a more horizontal position for better efficiency. In order to do that, I had to swap out my 110mm stem for something longer to bring my bike's handlebars further forward.
My road bike's handlebar is 25mm-diameter, and unfortunately there are no 140mm stems on Amazon that fits 25mm-dia. handlebars. The only 140mm stem is the Pro PLT, and it's for 31.8mm-diameter handlebars.
Fortunately, there are also shims available that allows you to mount 25mm-dia. handlebars on a stem that takes 31.8mm-dia. bars, and I also ordered it along with the Pro PLT stem. Both the shim and Pro PLT stem arrived, and the installation was successful-- Everything came together without a hitch.
I finally got the bike fitment I needed, and this stem was key. Just a heads-up for anyone looking to buy this stem: Check your handlebar diameter and find out if you also need to order shims to use this stem.
This stem worked out very well for my particular application.

Sunlite Steel Touring Stem, for 1", 22.2mm quill Review

(More customer reviews)So here is the thing... it's a ten dollar stem. In that context it gets four stars for existing and matching its description. It is not light; it is not smooth; it sort of looks like it was welded by lemurs wearing mittens. The weld joining the stem to the quill on mine looks like it had some bubbles in it, but, and I'm no welder, it seems to have its structural integrity intact. Having said all that, it is a long stem. It's a problem solver. Get it to put on cheap bikes that currently make the rider hunch over. I put it on my wife's inexpensive cruiser and she loves the improved fit. I suppose one important suggestion would be to not use this stem for *rough* off-road use; I don't think it's intended for that.
The quill (the part that goes down into your bike's head-tube) has a diameter of 22.2mm (7/8"). Sometimes this will be referred to as a 1" stem, which is confusing, but that refers to the outside diameter of the steerer, which is the top part of the fork that goes inside the head-tube (you can't see it on an assembled bike). The stem's quill needs to match the inside diameter of the steerer, hence a stem designated as 'a 1" stem' has a diameter of 7/8". To make matters more confusing, the other common size of stem has a diameter of 25.4mm, which *is* one inch, but is often designated as 'a 1 1/8" stem,' again referring to the outside diameter of the steerer.
The clamp on this stem (the part that goes around your handlebar) has an inside diameter of 25.4mm, or one inch. This seems to be a common size for mountain bikes, cruisers, comfort bikes and the like. Most drop bars, common on road bikes, are 26mm in diameter and will obviously not fit in a 25.4mm clamp. I did not have any trouble with the clamp fitting a 25.4mm bar. If you find yourself having to over tighten a bar clamp, it's probably a good idea to get a shim.
Giving credit where due, most of this I've learned from Sheldon Brown's Bicycle Glossary (easy to find with a search engine) combined with observation and trial and error.
On an assembled bike it's probably easier to measure the circumference of your existing stem and handlebar and then convert to diameter. This is probably off by a hair, but it worked for me.

Sunlite Cromo Quill Stem Extender - 8.25" x 22.2mm Review

(More customer reviews)I had a problem with numbness in my hands that was not solved with padded gloves so I wanted to raise my handlebars to take pressure off my hands. This pyramid stem riser allowed me to keep the quill stem and the handlebar that had come with my bike, but to get the handlebars 5.25 inches higher. But I had to pay a bike shop to replace the 4 cables and housing because the cables did not have enough slack for the 5 extra inches. This worked well on my hybrid and made it more comfortable so I did the same thing on my mountain bike. Both bikes are from the mid 90's and have threaded quills. If you do not know what size you need, then loosen the quill and take it up and out and on it you will see numbers such as 22.2 engraved on it. Then buy the stem riser in the matching size such as 22.2 diameter. The higher handlebar height works well for me and I like that this product allowed me to get a higher height without buying a handlebar in a different shape.
