The set stem on my hybrid bike was too long, forcing me to bend down and stretch my arms forward, which on long rides was putting pressure on my shoulders, elbows and hands. I personally prefer riding in a more upright position, which is why I ride a hybrid rather than a road bike. If you have handlebar adjustment issues, this may just be your answer! This is a great quality product at a great price.

IRD Technoglide Threaded Bicycle Headset - 1 inch Review

(More customer reviews)The bearings work exceptionally well, and they are completely sealed cartridge bearings. The top adjusting race and lock nut require a 1-1/8" open end wrench to tighten properly since they are eight sided nuts and a standard six or twelve point socket will not fit on them.
The entire bearing is well constructed, strong, and very light. My only complaint is the upper and lower bearing cups (external races) fit loosely on the head tube. They do work extremely well even with this issue. My forks quill has a bend to it and would bind up when spinning the bars with the stock bearings, but spin easily and freely with this headset.

Back then, I managed to replace the stem with a very short quill, but it had a very LONG mount. This past year, I've rebuilt my old Vitus 979, and realized how difficult it has become to find quill stems, especially short ones like what I need. The H20 is perfect. It looks sleek, it's lightweight, and it works well with my Ritchey Pro Biomax II handlebars!

PRO PLT Road/MTB AL Stem Review

(More customer reviews)Like most people, when I first started riding my skinny-tired road bike, I needed a more upright posture. But as I got more comfortable at riding my road bike, I got more proficient at riding in a more horizontal position for better efficiency. In order to do that, I had to swap out my 110mm stem for something longer to bring my bike's handlebars further forward.
My road bike's handlebar is 25mm-diameter, and unfortunately there are no 140mm stems on Amazon that fits 25mm-dia. handlebars. The only 140mm stem is the Pro PLT, and it's for 31.8mm-diameter handlebars.
Fortunately, there are also shims available that allows you to mount 25mm-dia. handlebars on a stem that takes 31.8mm-dia. bars, and I also ordered it along with the Pro PLT stem. Both the shim and Pro PLT stem arrived, and the installation was successful-- Everything came together without a hitch.
I finally got the bike fitment I needed, and this stem was key. Just a heads-up for anyone looking to buy this stem: Check your handlebar diameter and find out if you also need to order shims to use this stem.
This stem worked out very well for my particular application.

Easy to install, and it looks great on the bike even though the polished silver is nowhere near the shininess of a Nitto chrome stem. If you prefer the clean lines of a threaded stem, this may not be the stem for you. For my needs, this stem is a huge improvement over the black stock stem that came with my bike when I first bought it.

I find the bar a little to narrow (even in size large) and the elbow holders to uncomfortable for long distance TT, anything up to 20 - 30 miles is fine. But the bar was intended to be used for the track, not the road, for that it is perfect.
Pricy though, but seems well made.

(More customer reviews)Well, to be honest, all I have to say is that this handlebar stem is very solid. It holds its position well too! The reason that I went with an adjustable stem was so that I could change my riding position depending on what kind of riding I'll be doing. Since I am a student, money is tight thus I only have one bike. Whether I'm riding a paved trail, dirt trail, gravel, asphalt--whatever--this stem stays put! Since my one bike often doubles (or triples) as a "road" bike, commuter, or light trail mtb, this stem performs extremely well. Of course it's not "everything to everyone," but for my needs, it is PERFECT.
I am using it with a RaceFace carbon XC handlebar too, btw.
