(More customer reviews)But my wife gives them five because she likes their look. As a previous reviewer said, these are great if your goal is to preserve or achieve a retro look. If not, spend a few more dollars and get some Tektros instead.
Pros:
- Vintage-esque look
- They work fine
- Inexpensive
Cons:
- No barrel adjuster
- They seem to flex a bit
- The overall quality is so-so
- They would look cheesy on a modern bike
Their biggest weakness in my opinion is the lack of a barrel adjuster. If you don't have an adjuster at the brake or cable hanger, you can't fine-tune your brakes. Of course that's part of the old-school style and neither the product photo nor description imply the presence of one. It's just one of those things you might not think about before buying but that will bother you in usage.
The bottom line: I would recommend them if you're going for a retro look, but not otherwise.

They are comfortable, stylish and weigh nothing. I recently wrecked at over 30mph on macadem with nothing happening to them, so they are also built to last. And as for performance, the improved ergonomics has increased my climbing speed by giving me a better, more stable and comfortable grip, letting me hang further over the front tire than before so I can dig harder. I actually don't want you to buy them because I don't want you to be as cool as me.

Even with gloves my hands didn't feel secure on my bars. Don't sacrifice ride quality for looks. Pay a few extra dollars for Deda's version of transparent tape.

(More customer reviews)I normally run Fizik Microtex tape on my handlebars. However I really thought that the Stella Azzurra had a nice look and decided to order it. I ordered the Eleganza in Blue/White. This is really nice looking tape with a good feel and good looking finishing tape and bar ends. The tape looks great on my bars and it has some padding so there is no need for bar gel. The tape was really difficult to wrap. You really need to take your time and not rush. Once the job is complete though, the tape looks outstanding! The Fizik tape lasts FOREVER! Hopefully this tape will prove just as durable.

They are steel, not aluminum alloy, but that being said, if you're buying North Road bars you're probably not concerned with weight. I put these on my grocery getter bike, and its setting right next to my Raleigh Sports, which of course is an original carrier of north road bars. I compared the two and the pyramid bars are slightly more swept back, making them a tiny bit more narrow, which I love. Even though they are a little more swept back they are still extremely comfortable.

BBB Carbon Race Ribbons Bicycle Handlebar Tape - BHT-04 Review

(More customer reviews)Bought 3 packs of the black tape at a great deal. I was trying to be frugal and get some less expensive bar tape. The carbon texture is a bit shiny and I worried that it might be slick in the rain, but it felt fine when wet. On the bike, this bar tape works as well as any other.
After a couple of months I needed to remove it for some cable maintenance. Well, that is when I found this tape not to be such a great deal. The adhesive on the underside of the tape is strong and when removing the tape, it tore apart, leaving only a strip of material on the bar where the adhesive backing was.
After picking, peeling, and using some adhesive remover, I was finally able to remove the rest of the tape. I still have 2 packs of bar tape that will go unused. Anyone out there who needs to rewrap their bars and would not need to rewrap them again for a while, this might be the tape for you. Hey maybe I'll send you a pack. ;)

Serfas Reactive HandleBar Gel Pads, GP-1 Review

(More customer reviews)I start getting numbness in my hands on rides longer then 15 miles, tinglies usually begin 5-10 miles after that. I bought these gel pads and the Serfas Echelon bar tape. The combination results in a substantially cushioned grip compared to the 18 yr old deteriorating cinelli tape with electrical tape patching I had before. Road vibrations and bumps still feel like they're transmitted through the bars to my hands, wrists, and arms almost the same as before, just a slight damping from the extra cushioning. I think I do lose something in terms of road feel but not so much as to give me substantial concern over the bikes handling. But over a longer ride, 15-20 miles or more, at least up to 35 miles or so, I no longer get the tinglies and the numbness is very much reduced. Where it might have been hours before the numbness was completely gone, now its unnoticeable shortly after my ride, half hour at the very most.
Installation was pretty easy, put them on the bars and wrap them with bar tape. I cut the top pieces a bit for a better fit and adjusted them as I was wrapping them to keep things straight. I don't know if the top pieces do all that much for me as I usually have my hands on the bottom, but I would acknowledge a marginal increase in comfort when riding in this position.

(More customer reviews)If you are not sure about investing in a full TT bike then this is a good piece to try out and see if a TT setup is for you. The finish and look of the bars is sexy, personally carbon always looks good. The assembly is straight forward. A word of caution check your horizontal bar diameter. Some handlebars have a larger diameter at where the stem and handlebar meet, from here it'll taper to a smaller diameter. If you intend to mount the bars close to the stem it will not hold because of this taper. Shims are provided but don't really help much. Other issues to be aware of is that it's a bolted clamp assembly which if you apply enough load to the bar it'll move. These are overall a good alternative to a TT bike.

(More customer reviews)Progressive arthritis in the hip means riding in the drops was getting more and more uncomfortable. I switched from the standard FSA Omega bars to these Omega Compact bars and the difference is striking. Now I find myself riding in the drops much longer than before the switch. As an added bonus, these bars make it easier to brake and shift as my STI levers are now closer.
Only word of caution is that the bar ends for the Compact are longer than the original bars so I occasionally whack my knees on the bar ends when out of the saddle. I hacksawed 3/4 of an inch off each bar end and that's improved things.

Origin 8 Bicycle Drop Bar Ends, Black Review

(More customer reviews)I bought these bar ends a couple weeks ago and really like the fact that they give me a more aerodynamic profile on my bike. I have a hybrid bike with flat bars and was regretting not buying a road bike. These don't make your bike into a road bike, but they are the best bar ends with that purpose in mind. They come only in metal so if you are riding bare handed it can get cold. I'm buying lizard skin wraps available here on amazon to fix that problem.
Taking off one star because they are smaller than I thought they could be and riding without brakes is scary as hell. I would like the loop to go a little lower and have a little more room when you are holding on to the highest part. People with bigger hands might find that they can only use the bottom part of the grips.
Without brakes on these things you should be careful to only use them when no cars are around, otherwise switching to the flat bar brakes, depending on your skill level and speed, you are going to have to take one hand off at a time so you and your bike don't fall over which takes a couple seconds and might be too late if you need to react quickly. One more thing, these are also not as good as real drop bars because they are further apart at the ends of your flat handlebar, real drop bars are much narrower, giving you a more aerodynamic profile. Lastly, you are going to have to probably cut some of your grips off to fit these on. On my bike, I found that 105mm of grip let me fit these a little more than halfway on. Most grips seem to be 130mm. Bottom line, biking is funner with these on. 4 and a half stars if amazon let me give a half more :).
