Topeak RaceRocket Mini Pump (Black) Review

Topeak RaceRocket Mini Pump (Black)
Average Reviews:

Excellent build quality. Easy to use. Flip the cap and unscrew the hose to extend. It's also very easy to switch between Schrader (default) and Presta. My only wish would be for a way to lock it in its compressed (closed) form, but that's pretty minor and I don't know if any other pumps offer that. This is my first mini pump.
I added the photo to show that this is the new (2010) model. I almost didn't order for fear of getting the old model.
UPDATE: The pump is held closed while in the mount.

Planet Bike MicroPro Ultra Light Pocket Size Mini Bike Pump Review

Product looks and feels great, but after the first day, the valve latch broke off.
It was relatively easy to take the valve apart to switch between Presta and Schrader valves, but while pumping a Schrader valve, the pump valve seemed to always leak air slightly. When I pressed back on the valve latch to check if it was locked correctly, the latch snapped off.
Pick another pump!
Pros: look and feel, aluminum, mount-anywhere bracket, lifetime warranty
Cons: leaked and broke while pumping with Schrader valve

Topeak Road Morph G Bike Pump with Gauge Review

Topeak Road Morph G Bike Pump with Gauge
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have found this pump very useful and portable. Attaches to the bike frame with the supplied flexible mounting. I like that you can screw on the mounting, if your bike frame has that capability - or you can "soft" mount it using the supplied other mounting hardware. They even gave a little instruction booklet for the mounting.
Also nice is the fold out foot rest and extension tube, which make for an easy pumping action. And of course, the handy little pressure gauge.
The only reason why I gave this 4 stars, not 5, is there was no manual for newbies like me to refer to. So here's an attempt at a how-to.
First - remove the usually black, plastic cover from your tire valve - so you should be looking at a metallic, threaded valve assembly.
Next, figure out if you have a presta (narrower) or schrader (wider) valve on your tires. To figure out which you have, google for images.

Then - adjust the pump head (or tip) to match your tire valve. My Topeak shipped with the pump head set for presta valve. I quickly discovered my tire valves were schrader, and not compatible with the pump. After some googling and head-scratching, I finally figured it out. You have to take apart the pump head assembly and put it back together the same way as given in the picture on the packaging. DOH. Gently unscrew and take off the little metal cap on top of the pump head (tip). Then gently pull out the black rubber piece inside, and the metal nozzle. For the Schrader valve, make sure the larger opening of this black piece is facing outward. The small opening of the rubber piece should be facing inwards, and should fit over the narrow end of the nozzle/metal piece. Having flipped the assembly, push it all back into the pump head, then screw the cap back on - and presto ;) you have a Schrader compatible pump head.
Next, loosen the cap on the pump head part-way, let it sit on the tire's metal valve. Press down a little bit so that the valve goes into the tube a little bit. Then, counter-intuitively, screw the cap back up into the head assembly.
Now push the black lever at the back of the pump head so that it snaps into place at a 90 degree angle to the plane of valve.
This procedure gets you a tight join/seal between the tire valve and pump head. You are ready to pump!
To disengage, I found it easier to first unscrew the cap on the pump head till it came off the pump head and dropped onto the valve. This way there was less leakage when I unlocked the lever, and pulled off the rubber piece from the tire valve. I am sure there are better ways - but this should get you started :) Also, for more expert bikers, please comment on this little how-to with improvements so we can benefit. Thanks!

Every dedicated cyclist needs a good portable pump for his or her training rides. However, many on-the-go pumps are somewhat clunky and not all that easy to use. Enter the Topeak Road Morph G, which packs floor pump efficiency and ease of use into a compact, portable design you can bring along for the ride. The Road Morph G boasts a clever foldout footpad that stabilizes the pump against the ground rather than your hand, creating a comfortable, efficient pumping motion. Plus, the pump's flexible air hose makes it easy to work with awkward or tight valve placements while also helping prevent valve stem damage. Other features include an extra-long barrel, an inline gauge, a secure mounting bracket, a Presta/Schrader head, and a plastic thumb lock. The Road Morph G measures 2.2 by 13.8 by 1.1 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 0.49 pounds.

This pump is great. One guy had one out west on our annual trip and two of came back and bought one. The best part is the flexible tube to connect to your valve stem so you dont bend the stem, especially important with tubless tires. Locks on great, fills quicker than any other pump ive used

Bell Airstrike 2100 Floor Pump Review

Bell Airstrike 2100 Floor Pump
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just received it and put to good use. It made really quick work of inflating the tires in my bikes - mountain bike to 40 psi and speed bike to 80 psi - a few strokes and I was done. Far easier than the little portable pump I had.
The construction feels nice and solid. The valve has both Presta and standard valves.
The pressure gauge is at the top of the pump, so it's easy to see while pumping.
I should note that the pressure gauge starts at 30 psi, so you wont' be able to measure anything below that, though of course you would still be able to inflate things to below 30. Not a problem though, as bikes use a minimum of 40 psi.
The hose clips onto the pump cylinder for easy storage.
I'm looking forward to years of use.

Pump Zefal Frame Hpx-1 - Black Review

Pump Zefal Frame Hpx-1 - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Years ago I owned a Zefal frame pump that, unfortunately, I left on top of my car and managed to lose. Just recently I bought two more of these pumps--one for my wife and one for myself. This is the best pump you can buy for road bike tires. It attaches securely to the frame by spring action. It locks onto the tire's valve well. And it is relatively easy to pump the tire up to full pressure. In fact, if you own this pump and trust yourself to judge proper inflation pressures, you don't really need a floor pump.
I would give this product a 5-start rating except for one small problem: it needs some some sort of minimal instruction sheet. (1) New owners may need to know how to switch from Presta to Schrader valve setup. (2) There is a bit of a trick to attaching the pump to a Presta valve. You have to line it up just right and then slide it on the valve until you feel it 'click' past the indentation on the valve stem (if there is one). Finally, (3) I find it best to pump up my tires with the wheels on the bike, the bike leaning against something secure, and the valve stem near the top of the wheel. Then you hold onto both of the rubber grips and pump by bringing your fists together. . . . I bent a couple of valve stems before I learned the proper technique, but, having learned, the pump works flawlessly.
It is solid and well-constructed, with an all aluminum body, so it should last a long time. There may be a slight weight penalty to carrying a full frame pump on a modern light-weight road bike, but if you find yourself fixing many flats, you'll be glad to have a Zefal. A new tube, CO2 pump, and two cartridges (a setup that many road cyclists prefer) probably weighs more than the Zefal and a patch kit.

The Zefal frame fit pump fits in the vertical position without a peg or umbrella clip by using a patented spring locking system. High pressure is reached with easy pumping action thanks to a small diameter, long compression chamber made of light alloy.

Topeak JoeBlow Max II Floor Bike Pump Review

Topeak JoeBlow Max II Floor Bike Pump
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this pump for about a month.
Pumps up tires/tubes with Shrader valves OK.
The Presta valve side of the twin head does not work properly with short stemmed Presta valves. It seems that the pump nozzle has difficulty in forming a good seal with short stemmed Presta valves. The pump will only pump up to around 75 PSI into the tire/tube. Pressures beyond 75 PSI appear to "seal" the valve, which prevents further tire/tube inflation. The extra pressure just pressurizes the pump hose only!
Pumping to higher pressures is a bit difficult. Especially when compared to easier working pumps such as Specialized and Blackburn brands which I have also.
Overall it is an average pump.
Not recommended for use with short stemmed Presta valves.

Topeak Pocket Rocket DX MasterBlaster Bike Pump Review

Topeak Pocket Rocket DX MasterBlaster Bike Pump
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the Pocket Rocket DX around a month ago, after spending a long time looking for the right pump online and in stores. This is the first pump I've had, so I can't compare it with any other pump. However, I did read many reviews before buying, so you can safely assume that there are many people who agree with me!
I looked for two things - first, it had to be small and light, since I wanted to be able to slip it into my backpack and use it to pump up both my bike and my soccer ball. Second, it had to do the job pumping up my (mountain) bike, otherwise it would be completely useless! Therefore, I only looked at mini and frame pumps.
Having used the pump frequently (I bike to school every day), I am quite satisfied with it. It is smaller and much lighter than I expected and comes with an interchangeable Presta/Shrader valve head, so I can use whichever one I want. It takes around 150 strokes to get a tyre upto pressure, which sounds like a lot but is quite reasonable for a pump this size. The only (minor) issue is that the pump usually does not deliver the pressures I want. Now that could very well be because I stop at around 150 strokes, but I am too lazy to keep pumping beyond that, so I find myself using the pump quite often (once every week, but ideally I should be pumping once every 3-4 days).
But in all, this is a great little pump for the price (~$20). I am not a bike enthusiast as such, so I'd rather not invest on a more expensive pump while this one does the job. If your needs are similar to mine, you should definitely consider this pump.

Serfas FP-606 Dual Stage Floor Pump Review

Serfas FP-606 Dual Stage Floor Pump
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this pump at my LBS because I needed it like, now, and I have not been disappointed. I have had to use it on multiple occasions, from either totally flat tires after changing or repairing a tube (twice now), or just pumping up another 10 or 20 pounds on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. The double setting allows a lot of air to quickly pump up a tire to about 60 psi, and then I switch it over to pump up to 110 or 120 psi. There are two openings on the end for both types of valves, and both work flawlessly. I have learned though that I do not have to push the connector too far onto the valve stem, just a little way on and it pumps fine, which makes a big difference when trying to remove it when your done. I have checked the pump accuracy to my accu-gage tire gauges and they are spot on. The only thing I don't like is the loud pop of air escaping from the pump tube when I remove the pump from the tire valve, this is normal, but just letting you know to expect it if you haven't bought one before. The price is right, the pump works great, what else is there.

Planet Bike 1006-3 STX Floor pump with Love Handle (taller, more durable, smoother pumping than ST) Review

Planet Bike 1006-3 STX Floor pump with Love Handle (taller, more durable, smoother pumping than ST)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The first generation of Planet bike pumps were problematic. This is a second generation pump, so we'll see how they work out. Planet bike lights are really first class, and other products they have designed are fantastic, but their pumps have been terrible. I took a chance on their second generation.
I just got the STX pump and tried it out - works fine. Below I mention what the reviewer before me had problems with, but that reviewer appears to have made an operator error: I pumped to 80 lbs with no real problems and it wasn't harder than any other pump I have.
Features seem very good for this price point:
-The gauge is low (it would be great if it was on top of the handle) but it is very large, so it is easy to read.
-The gauge has a moveable arrow you can use to remind you how high to pump to.
-The hose is long.
-Dual head means it fits either type of bike tube, and it comes with a needle and air mattress adapter that locks to the hose so you'll never lose it.
-Head locks on and comes off the tube valve without problems.
-Steel construction seems solid.
-The ergonomically designed pump handle is better than the other types of handles.
All in all, it's a great pump so far.
UPDATE: Still working fine two weeks later. And I figured out the problem the other reviewer was having: at the top of the stroke, the plunger can wobble a little bit from side to side. The plunger needs to be somewhat straight up and down relative to the base or you won't be able to push it down. I found myself straightening it without thinking about it - it's just sort of a natural thing to do when you are plunging down. But sure enough, if you push it off to one side too far, it won't go down at all. I think it may have been a bit melodramatic for that reviewer to push down harder and harder and then return it: just looking at it when it happened, it was pretty obvious that you needed to straighten it out at the top of the stroke, you kind of instinctively do it anyway. And yes, it would have been nice if it didn't wobble at the top. But if you can't plunge it, that's your problem. It's not super sensitive: you really have to be way out of alignment for it to stop it from plunging. I used it several times before I ever noticed it. I'm happy with this pump.

Beto High Pressure Bicycle Floor Pump Review

Beto High Pressure Bicycle Floor Pump
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this pump to air mainly bikes and I find it combersome to fit the spout between the spokes of the bicycles due to its thickness. It also took me some time to figure out that the lever and how it locks in to the valve. This all trial an error but once latched on it works fine. If not latched, the pump will not air up so you have to make the spout lock into the valve very well. I rate it 3 stars because it is a little troublesome for the spout to allow your hands to lock it in the valve, again because of the size of the spout.
Since I don't air up things everyday, I can live with it. Moreover, it is very durable and sturdy, and the gauge is a plus. My boys have played with this thing for 2 weeks and have trown it around and dropping the poor unit, and it has lived up to its durability. It seems unbreakable after 2 weeks of testing.

Comments:
This is an amazing pump, very small and works really good. I had other pumps before, but for my racing bike I need to put over 100PSI air. No mini pump could go near 80PSI. This one goes as much as 160PSI according to the specs. When I tried it on my bike, I could go over 100 easily. My tires can take a maximum of 120PSI, so I didn't try further. It is neatly built, with high quality material. The barrel is brushed aluminum, and very narrow in diameter. Towards the end of pumping it gets warm, but it works like a charm. Thanks Topeak! Topeak Road Morph Bike Pump Review

Topeak Road Morph Bike Pump
Average Reviews:

Pros: RELIABLE floor pump features in a frame pump size, hose relieves stem snapping
Cons: potential over pressure due to ease of use (but hurt me with this one)
This Thanksgiving I rode the 75 miles to the relatives. Six flats later and four stops for filing slow leakers, I was only an hour late. The Topeak Road Morph was the only reason I made it at all.
I have tried and tested almost all the small frame pumps on the market. Some don't work at all when you need them and some are best at snapping stems. Few get the high pressure in the tire. The Topeak Road Morph clearly is the winner in my book. The Topeak RM is the perfect blend of floor pump and light frame pump. Where I ride I have to have the reliability of a good pump and the Topeak RM is the only one I will use.
Tip: Before your next long distance or solo ride, get a Topeak RM. If you don't get one for Christmas, go buy one. You will thank your lucky stars when it performs when you need it.

Planet Bike Mini Versair Dual Action Bike Pump Review

Planet Bike Mini Versair Dual Action Bike Pump
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The previous reviewer is right: you need to unscrew the plastic piece a bit, then attach it, then screw it tight, and then pump. I own this and the Morph G and like the Morph better. I think it pumps better and it has a built-in gauge. The only time I plan to use a frame pump is in an emergency, and in that case it's nice to just have a built-in gauge. A floor pump like the Joeblow Pro imo is lot easier to use if you're checking/filling the tires before going out.
An important thing about this pump is that it attaches to the cup holder screws. The plastic is fairly thick and you may find that the screws to your cup holder aren't long enough to hold both the pump and the cup holder-- it happened to me. It also may get in the way of certain pedals, though I can't say that for sure. The Morph on the other hand may not work with some curved women's frames because there's no good place to attach it.
Planet Bike's customer service is very good and helpful, I just don't think this particular unit is all that great.
